For sure and hate painted bumpers :af: Spend the money to rechrome or find some clean originals for dang sake . p
I don't care for the painted bumpers either, but if it means the cars sits for a long time, or I paint the bumpers so it's at least presentable, I'd paint the bumpers. Some people just don't have the dough to get stuff rechromed. I have my grill in right now, $600.00 just for the grill, the bumpers are over 400 each, so some people have to pace themselves. The engine has to go.
Agreed. Not a good choice but if I had no other, then so be it.o No: Are you saying your 65 Grille and Bezzels were redone for $600?:idea2: Where and who? And would you reccomend them?uzzled:
I asked fastfred for the vin# 444675H279571 which was not posted in his original descriptation of the 65. ou:
I posted a 72 GS clone on the sales leads forum, and it had a reman Napa sbc 350. But in the guy's defense, he did a lot of horse trading back and forth and ended up with the car. I see it every day on my way to work, so I stopped by to ask about it, and as soon as I heard it had a Chevy 350 in it, my heart sank. It's like the idiot's guide to putting an engine in something. I think it's way overdone, and I'm way over it. I've had people tell me to get a chevy 350 or even a 454 for my 67 Skylark, and I wanna punch them in the face. I'd rather see my car burn to the ground. just my 2 cents. -Josh
what about my Buick powered chevy's. the chevy guys think i'm a retard until they are looking at tail lights all the way down the track:Brow:
My grill is in right now with the bezels. 600 for the grill 90 for each bezel. I'm having them done at quality plating in sterling illinois. I have seen some chrome they did and it looked good. The shop that will be doing my paint work, RPM restorations in DeKalb, IL., recommended them. I'll let you know when I get the parts back from chrome. Quality Plating has a web site but I don't know how to do a link. Google quality plating in sterling and you'll find them.
Tom, I seen that you wrote regarding bumpers are over $400 each to re-chrome. There is a place in Chicago that re-chromes bumpers called Keystone. The last time I call it was $365 to rechrome each bumper. The key thing is they have a "LIFETIME GUARANTEE" on the parts. They do not do little parts or anything but bumpers. I do not know if they would be considered "SHOW CHROME". But there is a guarantee. Their # is 800-622-0096.
Some people just can't afford to chrome bumpers. I know because I have been there in the past. Painting them might get the car on the road a little quicker and allow for time to same some $$ to rechrome them later. You could always put a Buick engine back in at any time if someone new owned this car. It's not a basket case just in need of some work.
Quality has a lifetime warranty also. It might be just under 400, but I remember it being competitive and they are fairly close to me.
We already know it's a mistake to put a chevy in....but, just for the sake of argument...why put in a "built" 307 instead of a 350 chevy??? Cuz the 350s are so hard to find????p
