    :Dou:

    Don't kill me please.

Im going to use the easy off, but after all the paint is off whats next in prep for paint?

Also Im going to go spray can because its not a show car and it does not need to be perfect.

What brands stick the best for dark argent, semi flat black, and the silver?

light coats right? Dads gonna paint this one not me.

    Thanks

Remeber to place the grill in a black plastic bag for a day or two after you spray the Easy Off on it. Wear a mask and safety goggles. Easy Off has lye in it. Nasty stuff. Wear protection! Might take a few applications.

Spray paint works fine. Apply it right over the plastic

What the heck does easy off do? Remove paint? Does it hurt the plastic?

Takes the paint right off and doesnt hurt the plastic.

Ok, Grille is going to be started this week.

Do I put the easy-off on, put it in a garbage bag overnight and then take it off the next day?

Anyone have a link for the silver and dark argent?

Spend a few dollars for Bulldog adhesion promoter SEM makes one too. This will make the paint stick. I use dark argent in the squares and light argent in the perimeter

Drano works too - it is lye as well. Wear gloves, etc as mentioned above. I use it for metal parts. Mix it in with water, soak the item in a plastic bucket and it will strip the paint off. However...you have to watch it as it will eat the base material if you leave it in too long, like over night. I check the progress every 20 minutes.

I took an original assembly line installed '70 GS grill to the local Dupont dealer and had it scanned underneath where the stainless molding was. There is evidently a 1991 Toyota color that comes up as a match. It is code G24M and is Dupont 516209IB. Haven't sprayed it yet but it looks to be dead on. I'll keep everyone posted.

    Ok, Next question.

The lowest part of the grille (the lip thats unde the bumper) Is that supposed to be painted body color or did that depend on the plant it came from? I've seen a lot of cars that are, but i just want to verify it.

Thanks for all the help guys!

    Louie,
There is a metal part that screws to the grille there, it is body color.
Stage 2 and I are going to test out the silver he had scanned on my Rivs headlight bezels and a 68 GS grille I'm restoring

I can't get you a pic 'cause my 70 Grille is in Stage 2s (Greg) shed now, since I gave it to him and we are putting it in his 70 ragtop....it's that cars original grille, came out of it 20 years ago.
I'll post pics of the headlight bezels when I get them done
