Hey ya'll! I'm Carl from Moyock, NC.

I just picked up my first Buick ever on Friday. I am the proud new owner of a 1965 Special. It's a 4 door, but that's OK with me. It still has the original 300 4 barrel with the cast iron intake manifold and the original 2 speed transmission. I was told that it is NOT a Powerglide???

The body, floorpan, trunk floor, and cowl areas all appear to be solid fot the most part. There are a couple of dings and divots but no filler. All of the trim has been removed from the exterior except for one piece on the drivers side front fender. This is fine with me though as my plan is to fill in the holes and slick the sides up.

The interior is a different story. It has Nova buckets in it, no carpet, no headliner, no door sills, yada, yada, yada.

First pieces I'm looking for are complete winshield reveal moulding set and a correct front bench seat.

This is a very cool site y'all have going and I'd like to take this oppourtunity to thank everyone in advance for all of the stupid questions I will probably be asking!!

Here's a pic. It's sort of a rolling restoration I guess. I am smitten by it though!

    Welcome to the site Carl.
Those 65's are really starting to grow on me the more I see them. Definately going to have to own one someday. They have great lines.

Welcome guy, I have a 65 GS that I am redoing. The 300/4bbl that you have has a lot of potential. :Smarty: It has 11to 1 compression ratio so you need nothing but premium in it. It probably has aluminum heads and a cast iron block. It is rated by buick at 250 hp but puts out more than that. Because of the aluminum heads DONT PUT WATER IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. run nothing but at least 50/50 coolant and when you add add anti freeze. Or else the corrosion will damage the heads and timing gear cover very quickly. The trans IS a power glide, but that is not bad it is good. Just put a lower gear and a posi. in the diff. and you will find your self beating the stick shift guys. I raced a 300/powerglide back in the days when you could not buy much speed equip for them , now you can. Contact Poston s Buick parts in Atmore ala. Put a bigger afb on it, recurve the dist., build a ram air,[lots of cheap hp here, Buick says 8% of what ever the eng puts out, about 20 hp.] and open up the exaust system and it will surprise you. :Brow: The dash can be modified to take guages and look factory. :TU: :pp Steam clean the under hood and underneath and it will be much easier to work on. paint every thing as you work on it. Edelbrock carbs in bigger sizes will bolt right on. Get rid of the points and improve the ignition system. [lots of cheap hp here] I would suggest HEI . Just a few ideas ,have fun. :blast: :blast:

Hey fellas, thanks for the welcome. As I said I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as they arise. I've already found the "search" function to be very handy! :TU:

Doc, the car already has an Edelbrock #1406 bolted on. I researched their website and found that it is a 600cfm carb. To be totally honest, I'm pretty much carb handicapped! :Do No: However, I do know that at this time it is running really rich. It doesn't smoke, but puts carbon on the concrete in the driveway if it idles for awhile. I have a couple buds that are willing to teach me some things, so getting the carb right is #1 priority to me.

After that I really don't know where to start. I guess thats kind of the reason that I'm here.

The car already has guages but they are mounted in a mock up console that will be going away soon. Modding the dash for their placement sounds interesting.

    Whats an AFB??
