ok i have a 69 skylark 350 with air.junked the 350 and im putting in a 75 455 .since i plan on putting air back on i got a waterpump for a 75 455 with air my pulleys are all from the 75 engine.however i was going to retain my clutch fan from the 350 but it wont fit cause the water pump shaft is a 1`/2 to long.what gives here?i searched and read some other post and they talked about pulley misalignment etc...my pulleys line up....so do i get a clutch from a big car or what?

    Hmmmmm

Did you get a BBB fan shroud? If not, that is your problem. :Smarty:

with all respect to that answer, in no way does your reply approach or answer the problem at hand..................

What he meant was that you need a shroud from a 400/455 car. The depth of the shroud is different........then things should line up OK. The 350 was prolly a little shorter. :bglasses:

hey thanks but the shroud has nothing to do with the waterpump shaft being to long by a 1/2 an inch,i guess i must not have described my problem well enough, but no where in my description did i mention a fan shroud problem but did mention a waterpump shaft length problem...........

    DMD,

If you have a question, make sure you describe it as good as possible, or post photos in the thread to lighten things up a little.

We are a friendly bunch out here, so no need to be so short tempered mate, people are only trying to help you out !!
Since we are all on a first name base, please put yours in your signature (it's so much better than addressing you as DMD..... :TU: )

sorry guys, didnt mean to be short tempered.my problem is the waterpump shaft where the clutch slides on the end of the shaft is about 1/2 an inch to long so my 350 fan and clutch will not mate to the pulley which goes on the shaft first.my shroud is fine.sorry if i offended anybody.

Not sure, but I think what DMD'S problem here is there are two different water pumps that the 455 had. The early style 67-70 430 and 455's and 67-72 A-body cars w/o air had the short shaft water pump (1/2").
The later modle 455's had a 1" shaft with a longer body. Hope this helps, Jim

No problem DMD (still no first name here.... ), but it looked a wee bit on the short tempered side, glad we could work it out like this :TU:

I forgot to put an answer in my post, but I reckon Jim's answer above is the best answer to your question.

There was a difference in the output shafts for the water pumps, with an engine swap like yours it will be one of those things you come up with........

Good luck on the 'Lark, and let us know if Jim's answer is what you were after.

The body lines on the '69 Skylark are the most sexiest in Buick history... !!!

The flange on the water pump shaft is a press-fit. Your's may have been pressed on to far and you will not get the clutch to mate to the surface of the water pump pulley. You can try another clutch or another water pump.

    CIT Poweraddict, help me

Another option is to simply cut off a 1/2"

This may help. It's from the TA Performance catalog, and shows the differences between the long and short pump. Notice the difference in the shaft length, between the long body(1"), and the short body(1/2"). You either have to change the pump or fan clutch. If all your pulleys line up with the pump you have, get a different fan clutch.

At first I was thinking of the same answer that Peter gave if I understand the question.

You have the pump on the left (455 with air)?

The pump on the right is the earily 67 to 70 non-air type.

went to the junkyard today and found the remnants of a 72 skylark 350 with air.i got the fan clutch, it will fit so i guess my problem is solved.as long as it will not run hot or anything.
