Another yard bites the dust

    My friend in Plant City is closing his doors. Crushing every car and part. This is a small classic car yard. Business is bad,plus continual overbearing state regulations. Big government is definitely against the little guy. Lot of Buicks in the yard and he won't even let me get anything before it goes in the crush. Talking to a guy in Maine, he tells me that Brown's Exit 27 Auto Parts is practically doing the same thing. This yard has hundreds of oldies. State and town overregulation has pushed their buttons. Instead of complying with new regs, Daryl Brown is going to squash it all. Unfortunately, I am seeing this happen all over. Big government- who needs it? :af:

    years of trash ball junk yards have wrecked it for the industry. There must be more to it...why crush the inventory, without even trying to liquidate / salvageable items?

    ....thats just an emotional decision, sad. :rant:

    unfortunately, i've seen more than one junk yard owner like that ... "won't give me $800 for that froze up big block? i'll crush it before i sell it for less".

    salvage yard owners tend to have a VERY different outlook from most of the rest of us.

    but yeah, the excessive regulation sucks too.

    Yeah, that's the one. I wish I could talk Wayne into keeping it open,but, it is his business and his decision. He was in 2 other different locations over the past few years and got jacked around really bad . He has come this far , I really hate to see him give up. I am hoping he will change his mind. He has had a problem with theft,also,which has contributed to his decision to close.

    He might let me get some things, but I wouldn't want him to think that I was trying to take advantage of a situation. I don't like to operate that way. A friend passed away a few months ago ,and he had some neat toys,but the thought never crossed my mind to ask his widow if any of it were for sale.Right off the bat,there were certain persons asking if any of the hotrods were for sale. I think that is low. My friend that owns Memory lane has a couple of my old parts/project cars still hanging around. I may try to grab one of those back,before it ends up in the crush.
     
  9. Too bad, Although I understand where he comes from. Its very hard to make a living off of a "classic wrecking" yard. Just not enough of us to make busy enough for them.Even though a friend of mines interest is classics and antiques, its not very often he sells parts of them. Too bad your buddy couldnt atleast get more money out of the cars by selling to another wrecker. Better than a big crush. I know he wants to just be rid of the problem but he may regret it later. Best of luck. get some parts!

    Yea there seems to be a really big gap between the customers & the owners.
    i guess there will always have to be controversy too bad everyone couldn't learn to play nice. :Dou:

    ted,i didnt imply to take advantage of him,i'm sure you would buy the parts.just dont get how crushing would be profitable over selling a few parts to a buddy :rolleyes: and i also have the guy with the yard that sticks the good stuff in the part of the yard that he wont sell parts off :af: then they get crused :af: i lost out on a 64 rear chrome strip cause he didnt want to sell the part...crush!! :af: i just dont get it,i would think they would have our interest at heart :confused: :Do No:

    I know you weren't implying anything. Definitely wasn't taken that way! There may be a reprieve. Wayne said earlier today that the crusher company can't get to has place for a couple of months! Since scrap prices are still high, yards all over the state are demanding the crusher, so I guess the crushing outfit he uses ( Foster's) is very busy. Wayne is going to put the property up for sale,though. Then the crusher will come in . Looks like his doors will be open for a while. There is a '75 LeSabre convertible there with most of the convertible only parts still on it. Looks like a northern car. No a/c,or other options. It has a '76 front clip on it. Not a rustbucket either. Ted

    Sad, sad news. :( Unfortunately, this is only going to make it harder on us automotive enthusiasts as a whole, now that there is one less "specialty" yard for us. :blast: :af:

    okay, i'll bite.

    you say it's a classic yard; he wouldn't happen to have a 4v 340 laying around would he?

    and, of course, how much would he want?

    There is a '67 GS 340 there with an engine in it,but I don't believe that it is the original 4bbl engine.

    doesn't have to be a GS340 (though that would be nice), all i really care about is that it be a 4v 340.
