Will the exhaust system for a 68 big block Chevelle fit a 68 GS400, including the down pipes o No: I know they are both A-Bodies, but not sure if they take the same exhaust system. Thanks, Dan :3gears:
The exhaust from just infron of the trans cross member should fit but nothing forward of that! you will have to make your own down pipes. Flomaster now has pipe kits in 2 1/2" and 3" for the cars!!! designed from headers back and all mandrel bent pipes they fit well and work even better. If you do not want the flomaster sound just order the pipe kit and use any muffler you like. Personally I like the Magnafo mufflers or Dyna max Super Turbos Ken I work in a Performance Muffler and Speed shop and see these all the time Check out the Flomaster sight they even have pictures of the system so you can see what you are buying kit #17119 or pipe kit #17107 :Brow: bout time they made these!! :beer
I have bought 3 sets of TA performances mandrel bent 2 1/2 inch exhaust with down pipes for manifolds and i have to say that it is awesome. i'll be buying another set for my next project.
I just put a TorqueTech 2 1/2" with X-pipe on my 455 with manifolds. I am extremely pleased with it. It sounds very nice and looks good as well. Speaking with the people there, they are incredibly friendly and helpful also. To top it all off, the guy I had weld it all together must have thought it went in easy, as he only charged me $50 labor to install/weld the system together. Mike
Torque Tech. Good quality pipes, good prices and great service. When installing the system start with the tail pipes and work forward. I learned the hard way.
I guess I was fortunate to speak in the matter of the install before having it installed. I called to ask for any special instructions prior to installing and the tech told me that exactly. So, some words of wisdom there... Mike :3gears:
I have used TT in the past too, but the tailpipes used to be manufactured incorrectly at the tips. When we bought them they were cut off perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. The tips are supposed to be cut parallel to the ground. Did they ever correct this?
No they did not. I heard from the beginning that they were not ended correctly. Others have just used a sawzall to correct the issue. I need a pic of how they are supposed to be to do the same. This is a minor infraction to me. I would think they do this on purpose to allow us to ensure likeness to each side, as the lengths may vary slightly and so may installs. Mike
If you can cut them straight with a sawzall I would like to be there to see it. I could not --but that does not mean you do not have an innovative way to do it. I suspect the correct cut like from TA are clamped and cut at the predetermined angle with something like a chop saw so as to be parallel with the ground.
I would like to see a pic of what they are suppose to look like. I believe a sawzall would get me close enough, and then a grinder wheel to finalize it to the best looking product. Mike
