I have been looking for a while and just saw this ad today. Is there anyone in New Hampshire that could check this one out for me? I will buy you dinner when I come to pick the car up:beers2:.
The dealer has been in Hemmings for a while for what its worth.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions

If I was pursuing that car, given the list of things that have been done to it I would want to see detailed pictures of the restoration process as well as machine shop receipts of what exactly was done to the motor.

Price is strong for a non-original motor, and they have deviated from stock in the under-hood equipment - not a bad thing but why ? on a fresh resto that is more stock than modified ?

If I was looking to spend 30K right now on a car, I would not be in any hurry - market is still soft and its the end of the season which is when people think of selling.

I don't know how many you have looked at, but just like buying a house - look at as many as possible before making a decision.

Concur with most of what Alan says.

I would be concerned about the car having new floor and trunk pans, and both quarters, and would want to see how the resto was done and have it closely inspected now. Bear in mind that they don't make replacement convertible quarters, so check them closely to see what they did. They may have used hardtop quarters.

I think it was a "frame off" only in the since that they took it apart to replace the pans, not that they restored everything, which is what you typically think of in a frame off. Frame looks to be "restored" by applying a new coat of thick paint.

They have the wrong shifter handle and didn't even put a new sticker on the air cleaner?

It is probably a low twenties car, not high twenties. IIRC, it has been for sale for awhile and has run on ebay at least once before.

I agree with Chris....Low to mid twenties. Is the car being sold by a dealer? Will there be sale tax involved increasing the price?

    Good luck.

If it just underwent restoration, why is there rust on the convertible top frame?

probably not a top notch resto, maybe the top was already replaced and they did not want to remove it for the resto. Anyway when I look at the rear quarters they do not look quite right. But it might just be me. I do know what it costs to restore one and you cannot do it for the asking price. Hey its GS 455 convertible and you would not feel bad about installing hedders and 3 inch exhaust maybe some aluminum Stage 2 heads and drive its wheels off.

    Hi,
I agree, the rear quarter looks weird, specially the driver side. And there is something wrong with the dash, it should have air outlet on the left side and on the right side should have the top up/down switch!
The inner fender splash rubbers is missing, the power steering pump bracket is not correct for 1970, heat stove is missing, heater hoses are attached to the inner fender with a bracket that I haven't seen in a 1970 GS before...
If I where you, I would walk away and continue searching.

I looked at both ads and if it were me, I'd prefer the one in Atlanta. The one that was "restored" was obviously a real rust bucket at some point. And without pics of the work, you could find yourself with a real hornet's nest down the road if shoddy bodywork and poor panel fitment and alignment start to rear their ugly heads. The other car looks as if it was never ravaged by rust and even though it's engine has also been modified, seems to be the better way to go. Just my $.02.

I'm not wild about the Georgia car either...there's even more nits to be picked on that car than the northern car.

I guess it all depends what you want to do with it - win shows or bang gears. Niether car will win shows without ALOT of correction, and they're both spendy for gear bangers...buy either because you think it's the coolest car ever, not to impress anbody.

I'd prefer the one in Atlanta and I would not even look at the first one because it has no AC. The Atlanta car seems to have some nice options but also needs some TLC.
