If memory serves? I was going to purchase a GNX from Friedman Buick in Mayfield Hts, Ohio I think the number was GNX 401 I could be wrong on that number? It was priced at $29,290 as well and they wanted at the time, $30,290 plus tax, etc. I said no thanx and bought the 87 GN with 1.1 mi. on the showroom floor for $ 17,750 I think? been awhile! I was 37
There was a red 71 GS Stage 1 "show car" with a red interior. We've seen pictures of it but I don't think anyone knows of its where-abouts.
I remember about 30 years ago, I looked at a 70 GS Stage 1 that was black, no vinyl top and the guy had dyed the interior red. It was striking. I always wanted to do a red interior on a GS. Its ashame that color wasnt available.
Sure! If I knew any. Don't know details just heard it was being restored and should be done in the not too distant future.
Patrick, any chance you could share this particular picture (first one you posted) in a full size photo or provide a link? Thanks
Brian, I’m sorry but that’s all I have. Starc Traxler sent me that screenshot and I think he found it on a facebook Buick page. (I’m not on fb). If you can’t find it on fb, PM Starc and ask him. I’ve spent a lot of time searching different keywords related to Chicago, Detroit, 1960s, ‘68, auto show etc. and can’t find anything. I would love to know more. Patrick
I don't have any pics of the red one but I took these two pics when I was at the GS Nationals back in the mid 90's. Must be cool to have a few "one of ones" in your collection Brad! ------------------------ Eric
Yes it is. There are people with standing offers of a lot of money but I've declined them all. At this stage of the game, it's way cooler to have the cars than the cash.
Where there is a will, there is a way! I tracked it down thru the name mentioned in the screen shot. First, let me thank you for posting that picture Patrick. I had never seen it. The second picture you posted with the fender skirt maybe a different car. The door panels are also different. This shot definitely has a hint of pearl to it, and I'm not sure if I get the same feeling from the rear shot. If it is the same car, Buick played with it between shows. That rear 3/4 view you subsequently posted is one a "friend" lifted off eBay many years ago. It's the one I see most often. I can tell because my "friend" removed the watermarks the auctioneer put on there, and he wasn't as good as he is now at photoshop.
Thanks! Interesting story about your ‘friend’. The guy who asked about it on fb (Wes Eisenchek) is the guy who wrote ‘Lost Musclecars’ so maybe he’s researching for a book(?). I tried searching Wes’s name too but didn’t find much Buick stuff. As for the differences, I’m very curious. I noticed the upholstery and skirt change and thought maybe they built the skirt car early and when they decided the production GS wouldn’t wear skirts they removed them from the show car, and the door panel change was just a whim. I too can’t decide if the skirt car is pearlescent. It’s tough to guess which makes more sense-two cars so similar (both very close to Flint, too) or changing one car that much (like they did with the strangely striped ‘70 before the X package was finalized). And where did this/these go? Patrick
