If I get mine painted I want to get the tinting done properly on the rear window. Thats the only reason I want to remove it, the tint I have on it does not go all the way to the bottom because the technition that installed it could not reach to the bottom 1/2 inch of the glass. I'm afraid I will crack the glass removing it. Is their a special trick to it? Are their any new tinting techniques that would do a better job?

Years back I removed mine. First I removed the chrome molding. Be carefull doing this as you may crack the glass. There is a tool for that (sorry don't know what it's called) I also borrowed a hot cutting knife (don't know the correct name) from a friend in a body shop. It plugged in the wall socket had a real sharp end with a handle. The blade gets real hot to touch. Very slowly with the hot blade inserted into the rubber seal it cut threw the old harden window seal. I repeated this 2 or 3 times until the window can actually be moved. Then with two other people we gently and evenly lifted it out.

Do it slowly and carefully and use at least 1 or 2 extra people to help out.

You don't need a hot knife for the original butyl tape.
See the article on our site on how to remove front and rear glass.
Get a cold knife from any auto parts store or auto tool store.
    Costs about $10-12.

I used a linoleum knife (shaped like a sickle kinda) with a flexible blade to remove the quarter windows on my car. It worked great.
