Looking for suggestions, planning on redoing the interior. I like the factory look but really like the cloth comfort. The tweed I currently have is a bit dated.
Stock '72 Skylark cloth interior. I do keep a sheet on the seat when I drive the car because I'm afraid I'll get a greasy hand print on the cloth.
I love cloth interiors, it is a shame they typically aren't common/popular enough to be reproduced. I have an 85 Corvette with cloth seats and I am dreading the day when it eventually develops a tear.
I have a perfect blue cloth front bench from a low mi. '72. I bought it for the frame & maybe even re-using the cushions. Was hoping someone could use the covers.
If you know a competent interior trim shop, they can take the stock vinyl interior, remove the vinyl covers, and make cloth seat covers to match. I did that years ago, when I found a shop that had an entire BOLT of the cloth used on the 1984 Buick T-Types in sand grey. (NOT the aftermarket close to correct, but the ACTUAL correct Sand grey!). They also had the correct material for the 1986 T-type Lear Siegler CLOTH seats. Roger's Top Shop in Darlington SC. It was NOT CHEAP!!!, and that was about fifteen years ago. (Well over $1,000 for front and rear seats, and front and rear door panels.)
I had the front bench in the Electra redone by New England Trim https://newenglandtrim.com/ in 2018 and for anyone in the area or willing to travel they do an excellent job. Cost then was $1,400 They sourced original fabric and vinyl and the only downside is that the fading on the original rear is noticeable in comparison but it transforms the whole look of the interior.
