Well it's nearly five in the morning. trying to kill a few tasks in the garage.... then I remembered I had a couple of items show up my door step. some assy required :Dou: While i was at it... I noticed the preassemble part of the steering was a little stiff... hmmm I can make that lot better :spank: I cut down the stops a little and loosened up the rivets. now their little arms will be able to turn the wheel. :TU: Only 2MPH? :boring: i took a look at these in great detail. looks like one of my r/c car motors willfit in there... maybe an electronic speed control upgrade... new connectors... a pot for the speedo... then it need a rollbar and real seat belt.... :spank:
Oh wait a minute... They can' walk yet! :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

When my son outgrew his toddler bed (you know the blue car bed ) I decided to make a play car for him.

I built a cover for the forward section and built a bench seat for the rear. i then attached an old computer game steering wheel and made a shifter out of threaded rod and a shift knob from a Ford Focus, My father donated some old gauges from his Austin Healey to mount in the dash and it has been one of his favorite playthings ever since.

I only have this close up of it now but I will post a couple better ones later.

    I sure can relate.
My daughter out grew her Barbie jeep a few years ago and my son has taken it over. He's only 4 but loves Batman. So with some cardboard, fiberglass and 2 gallons of bondo the Batmobile was created. I also hooked up gun sounds to some switches on the dash and mounted a battery powered fan on the back to simulate the jet engine.
He still thinks the jet engine makes it go faster and I'm all for him having an imagination.

    Thanks,
I like it quite abit. My son really digs driving at night with the light on. If only it was a Buick.

Great idea! How long did it take you to make?

It was a total rush job as I got the idea two weeks before his birthday. You know how it is when you've got a deadline then every cool idea keeps popping in your head. I would have made things alittle nicer if I had more than 2 weeks but as it was I was up past midnight the whole last week.
I really thought I could shape it better with the fiberglass but that basically just gave me a hard shell and then I kind of sculpted with Bondo.
Not really the best plan, but for a quick, cheap way to go, it'll do for now. Until he smacks into a wall or something.
I keep telling him "Batman was always real careful not to bump into things with his car." Hope he keeps listening to me.
