I've seen a couple of great looking Buicks in the last few weeks and was wondering if anybody in the Detroit or mid Michigan area know these cars? The first is a beautiful Riviera, not sure of the year, it's the type where the trunk lid doesn't go to a point. It's got a Michigan vanity plate that says "Fat Riv". It is sorta reddish orange colored and is the most beautiful Riviera that I've ever seen. I have a picture of it at home from a cruse in June. The second is from a '66 or '67 GS that I saw in the parking lot (field) at Milan Dragway on Saturday night. It's green and has a Michigan vanity plate that says "Spuick". I'm not crazy about that body style of GSs, but really liked that one. Just wondering if either of those guys are on here or not? BTW... my wife was asking me when she was going to get "her" classic car? I told her to start thinking about what she wanted, since I have a long way to go on my GS before I'm ready to take it back on the road. She initially said that she wanted a Chevelle, and I asked her "why"? I told her that Chevelles are like Chevettes, everyone has had one at one time or another. She had no idea what she wanted, but then she saw that big, old, tubbed, fat, Riviera and I saw her eyes light up. Now, that's what she wants. I knew I loved her for many reasons, but didn't know that it was ever going to be for wanting a Buick.
Scott, where'd you see that Riv at. I may have seen the same car at a car show at Gibralter Trade show. The one I saw was lowered with 17 or 18" wheels and a custom body and interior . The paint was gorgeous, looked about an inch deep. It may be a different car. Rivs are natural candidates for lowering and customizing. BTW. Why don't you get your wife a regular clean 2 door small block Skylark. They're half the price of a Chevelle and as we all know, look better too. Just put a nice set of rims on and she'll have the perfect "almost" musclecar with good fuel economy.
That narrows it down to 8 model years. Was it a fastback? Those are 66 - 70. Hidden headlights with no fastback is a 65. Stationary headlights with no fastback is a 63/64.
Here's the picture of the Riv that I saw. I saw it during the Gratiot Cruise, last month, at around 10 Mile Rd or so. Beautiful car!!
Thats not the one I saw. That looks like a 68 or so. The one I saw was a 64-66. That one looks sweet, though.
The one in this picture is a 66 or 67-you can tell by the chrome on the tail lights. 68 and 69 had a different style rear bumper.
