it was a white with white top with black stripes 70 LS-6 SS Chevelle ragtop running i believe in Super Stock NHRA back in the early 70's,supposedly whipped up on everybody and ran low 11's high 10's.. i believe the driver was a guy by the name of Allen.. anybody remember or know the history on this car?
SS Chevelle I remember this car (if it's the same one) from the early-mid seventies. The car was run by Ray Allen; I believe that's the same Ray Allen of Racepac computer fame...upward and onward I suppose. I know a few old SS warriors from my race car lettering days (some of which are still active!) that could probably fill in a few blanks on this car. No idea of what happened to it or where it wound up...
Ray Allen campaigned the Truppi-Kling Competition LS6 Chevelle *convertible* out of Briggs Chevrolet...and this car just so happens to be going to Barrett-Jackson: auction link The car Chrysler built to take down Allen's famous LS6 Chevelle is also going to be at Barrett-Jackson at the same time: 5&50 Superbird
Wonder if someone with infinite pockets is gonna go for both of them ? Whatta chunk of history if it was to happen.
Rob, one of the guys I was thinking of that might be able to recall a few insights on this car (if it's the same one) is right in your neck of the woods. Val Hedworth was a SS stalwart out of Rowland Heights Ca thru the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's; a few years ago he moved back to Bevier, MO, where he still does excellent QJ work for a lot of racers. Probably still has an ad in the back of the digger! All moot, I guess, if the car is going thru BJ this jan., but the history is still interesting.
wow, that article on both cars cracked me up,its as if they were talking about the FAST series.. quote:"no stock 454 ran 10's"
Memory's the first thing to go... Think I may have totally goofed here...Racepac computers was started by Ray Alley...not Ray Allen...as soon as I get to have a coffee with some of my SS buddies I'll see if I can fill in a few blanks here re: this car; was just looking up some old issues of SS & DI (anyone remember those days?) that I used to use to pass the time in high school algebra classes (between the textbook, of course) to refresh my memory. Guess I was half right... :bglasses:
