Thinking of switching my old 2GV with a Holley 0-4412s 500 CFM. Anyone use it? If so, any difference?
I buy-rebuild-sell those . stock 2BBL intake ford guys and dirt/derby guys look for them . and just got done test running three of them on my stockish 360 dodge P/U . 2 were stock spec rebuilds , just a quick couple minute garage run/test . sounded good . the third was a dirt prep carb with QFT race base and QFT hi-flow metering block + . that i wanted to road test so hooked it up . drove it down to get gas etc , gave it about a 10-15 mile work out . really felt pretty good , pushed it a little . I've had good running 350-2 motors , a noticeable difference to those . 350 ? if using a 2BBL intake be careful with adapter selection . I've been looking for a 300-2 and 350-2 intake to check out .
I am not big into swapping the manifold right now. The AVS was good, but it eventually used more gas than I wanted, so it had to go somewhere. The solution? A middle ground. A two barrel with a much higher flow.
Sounds like you are wasting a lot of money when you could have just rebuilt the Rochester that was on there from the beginning. The AVS had generic jetting so that it would run OK on most anything you put it on, not optimal, but OK. Any aftermarket carburetor you buy will require tuning to get the most out of it. That's why you should just have the Rochester 2bbl rebuilt with parts for today's E10 gasoline.
Every 2bbl Rochester I get is either bad quality,or not made right. Its difficult to find a decent rebuild around here. Luckily, I had the parts sitting around for other projects, so no money lost.
The only part on a carburetor that wears is the throttle shaft, and they can be bushed. Other than actual physical damage from abuse, any carburetor can be rebuilt with new parts and gaskets, and work better than ever. We have guys on V8 who can do a proper rebuild of your carburetor.
Really? That might be perfect. I mean for 50+ years she had the 2bbl, It would be nice to have one that was restored to spec.
Contact Ken Gies here on V8, he does Quadrajets, but I am sure he can help you. He is techg8 This is his website, http://www.everyday-performance.com/ And here is his section on V8, http://v8buick.com/index.php?forums/everyday-performance-llc.172/
I used to run a 500 2 barrel back in the day. They are good carbs. Here's the thing about your fuel mileage concerns, though. You're 99% guaranteed to get worse MPG switching to the 500 2 barrel over the 4 barrel. Why? Because your car/carb is running on 500 cfm constantly, not just when you open it up because there are no secondaries. So it's like having a 1000 cfm 4 barrel cruising around, cfm wise.
Or, you can swap on the TA intake, http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1235 You can bolt the AVS right on as the TA intake has both bolt patterns. Or, you can get Kenny to build you a Quadrajet for a stock engine. That will get great gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. You'll want to upgrade to dual exhaust if you haven't already.
I mean, its hard to explain. It felt like it was using far ore fuel than was rightfully being combusted at an efficient rate. I am used to mileage gas-wise, as I tend to average 70-80 miles a day at 70-80 mph, 100-500 miles on weekend trips all backroad mileage
An intake and a new carb are roughly the same cost. You've already got a 4 barrel carb, why not just buy the aluminum intake, make a performance improvement, lose some weight, and be done with it? That's the route I'd personally take.
I have already looked into the TA 4bbl Intake, its ordered. This is a logical point. I thought about it today, and it seemed the best way to go financially.
