Checking to see if anyone has ever had any luck with Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicle searching a title
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers/forms/mv2896.pdf Check out that form. Fill it out, check box number 2 under authorization, and cite survey research if they ask. That's what I did for the ND DMV. I got a copy of the original title from 1962 no questions asked. Might have been illegal, who knows, but it worked.
I'm glad someone replied to this. I found out a few months back my Electra was a Cheese state native. Illinois could only search back to 05 when it was first titled here. Guess I will pick up the trail with this form! ---------- Post added at 10:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:49 PM ---------- My concerns are these: -How do you know how much money to send if you don't know how many previous owners there were? It seems that they charge by each record requested (what if there were 10 owners?) -At the bottom of the form, which option do you choose? The certified or non-certified motor vehicle record fee? -How long does it take for the records to return to you? I'd just like to know before I do something incorrectly on the form.
No use!!! Wisconsin database only searches back 6 years. The title from my car was back in 1984 and they had no record. At the very least it only cost $5.00
I believe it's 5 bucks per request, not per owner the car had. I would choose the non-certified, as it's cheaper, and there's no reason for your purposes you need the information certified. I got my letter back within a week. I'm sure they will contact you if they need more money. Damn! I got lucky - ND still had all their stuff on microfilm. Their computer records stopped at around 1993 or so though.
I see, i thought it was 5 dollars per prevoius owner found. Well, I suppose it's worth a shot for 5 bucks.
