This valve is on the 70 GSX I posted a thread on. Has anyone ever seen a plastic valve with the 3 ports like this on a 70 intake? or any other year. I am used to the metal ones. We are trying to figure out if it could be correct.

Might have a date stamped onto one of the flats like the brass valves do.

All of my 71 big cars had them, but they were kind of a yellow/white plastic, not black.

My 69 GS 400 had one like that. The replacement was metal.

68 430 had the same valve in the same place. I had no reason to believe it was not stock.

Thanks, This is good info. I have several of the metal ones I know were original as they have the date codes on them. I have one from a 71 with a 71 date code as well. I am guessing it was just 2 or three suppliers so you got what you got on the day it was built.

I have seen them, but I believe primarily on 71 motors that I have had. But like Adam said, they were a white or faded yellowish color..

All the 69 ones I have are black and look like that. Let me know if you wont be needing that one. Tony

I just checked an untouched 70 intake I had and it had the metal type on there as well(picture below). The intake is date January 5 of 1970 and the valve has a date code of 10 H 69(October) on it. I also have valve 11 H 69 on my car and also one from a 71 that has an H in the middle as well. I am guessing the H has nothing to do with the date as all I have seen had the H in the middle. Not sure why All I have ever found is the metal type? The 71 metal types also have a D C and MT on the back. The 70 metal do not. These were installed at the Flint engine plant I believe so I am guessing it was just who was supplying that day as I have metal from 70 and 71 models and some of you guys have plastic.

By the way. The date codes are on the brass hex on the metal units.

Dave, I just worked on a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 with a 455 engine and it had that exact one. It looked original to the car .

Hi Guys. It all depended on who was driving the Fork Truck supplying the Line that day. He could have picked up an older basket or a newer basket of parts to supply the line. Some baskets would sit for Six Months or more. They were supposed to rotate the baskets when they came off the Boxcar or the Semi. But you know us lazy Shop Rats.

Yes...I think what Ponch65 + you said...you got what you got, depending on the day. I've looked at easily over 1,000 68-72 442's at events and judging over the last 25 years or so. The bulk have the skinny metal valve, but I have seen the plastic ones. I would say to check the date on that one just to satisfy your curiosity. Is Herb's car an early or late one?
