I have found something in my front room I was not needing to find............ I have a list of questions now for sure!!! :Smarty: Oh yea this is close to my ceiling. I have found some mud tracks near the trim board close to the door too............
Mike, If you have mud tunnels near the bottom you probably have TERMITES. Check under the house for more mud tunnels and other damage. I know you will keep us posted as to what it is. Dave
Mike, Get ahold of Brad Rezac (chrome Yellow on the board). He works for Ecolab in Omaha. I really could not tell much from the pic myself. Just looks kinda like wallpaper peeling off the wall.
When I peeled the paper on the sheetrock back I collected a dozen little white ant looking things so Im sure its termites. figure I need to chase them down with some nice bug killer and shoot it in the wall before I fix the wall back now. That and pull the trim back and see whats behind the trim.
Mike, Open up some more to expose some framing. Poke the wood with a flat screwdriver. If the termites have been active you will push right into the stud. To be safe, I think you should have a pro give the house the once over. If you need treatment it will have to be done right away. Don't wait. Little buggers can do much damage in a very short time.
I have a contract with a guy now he will be sparying very soon like early next week. I hope I never see these guys again!!!
Mike, Here on Long Island this has become a right of spring. I have a service contract with the exterminator to check the house each year and treat if needed. It's like rust - we can't avoid it! Good luck - hope it doesn't hurt the pockets too much!
Par for the course in NY as Bill said. Just so happens I'm residing my house this week. Found one termite eaten box beam and another thats infested with carpenter ants :af: I think the termite damage was pre existing though. Try and find the path they used to enter the house. Mud trails up from the foundation, scrap wood leaning against the house, etc.. Mike, after the house is treated, look into the Sentricon termite baiting system for your property.
You will need a pro for sure. You can not just "spray" them. Those are subterranean termites (Formosan Termites) and you will have to have ground penetrating spray/injection. This will require a perimeter drilling around the entire house to a depth of 2-3 feet and injecting poison that is not available to the homeowner. If the problem persists, you may have to get the house fumigated. Check with your homeowners insurance to see if you have any coverage for "wood destroying organisms"
Mike- I suggest you rip the sheetrock off the wall and inspect for damage. If theyve worked their way to the cieling of the room, I can only imagine what the sills and studs look like. You may be replacing the box beams and or sills in that room. Too bad they outlawed Chloridane.
