Anyone know a lot about DVI?

  1. I have a friend that just bought at 50 inch Panasonic Plasma with a DVI input. When the cable box and TV are turned on, there is a picture on the TV via DVI. When the TV is switched to another source and then back to the DVI input, white snow appears on the DVI Input. If the DVI cable is unplugged and plugged back in while the set it on that input, the picture comes back. Likewise, if the box is hard reset (pull the power cord) DVI comes back.

So from what I something is not handshaking/reclocking when switching back to the DVI input. Any suggestions?

I would assume that you're right about the reclocking. I would contact Panasonic and tell them about it- shouldn't happen because he switched inputs, in my opinion. Sounds like a problem with their TV.

I've had similar issues with S-video and a 31-inch CRT TV. I think something inside the TV locks onto the signal and doesn't want to go back.

Its also possible, though, that the cable box is getting feedback from the TV, and "turns off" its DVI output if it can tell its not used.

Still, its not a problem you should be having.
