    Hey guys,

Can someone ID (roughly) the wheel and tire combo in this video?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOS5YSAbT3U

Will be buying new wheels and tires soon and really like how these sizes look, the fronts are the perfect blend of not too skinny and skinny enough to have that drag car look \ without using 4" rims. So far I am planning on 295/50/15 BFG Radial T/As on the rear on 15x10s with a 5.5" BS, not sure about the front yet. 15x7 seems to be readily available. This car will be a dailyish driver.

Anyone know if this owner is on V8?

Why don't you contact the owner of the car through YouTube, or leave a comment for one of his videos :TU:

I sent him a message via youtube a while ago but never got a response, maybe I will try again.

Anyways does 15x7 fronts sound like a reasonable choice to go the 15x10 rears for this kind of look? Maybe 225s or 215s on the front?

    Thanks all!

15x7 is too wide on the front for that look. I suspect those are 5 to 6 inch wide, which would work for the tire sizes you mention. The bigs/littles look needs a really narrow front tire when not tubbed in the rear. 205 wide, or go with an aftermarket (M/T, etc.) tire made for this look.

I just bought my rear wheels and tires, they are on the way. 15x10s with 5.5 backspace, and 295/50/15s. I really like the understated big and little look, I don't want the car to look all super Pro Street or anything. The rims I bought (summits) only come in 4", 7", 8", and 10" widths. I am worried that 4" won't be good for a daily driver and will be too dramatic of a look as well. I'd still like to be able to drive on a nice windy road with this thing sometimes.

Is 15x7 really going to look that meaty? Is 15x4 the way to go?

    Thanks all for the advice!

So you are doing this for looks? Certainly not for handling. JMO, but I think that is a bad idea. You want some rake, that's fine, but putting skinnies on the front makes sense for drag racing at the track. It makes no sense for a daily driver.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Are you sure that the wheel/tire combo you ordered will fit in the wheelwells? Did you take measurements or trial fit a set from someone else? I'd hate to see you get them and find they won't work.

I'd say it's half for looks and half because the car really needs new tires and I figure I might as well get a set of wheels I like while I'm at it. No use spending money on tires for the wheels that are on the car that I think are ugly and want to change anyway. Plus it's got 14s on front and 15s on the rear, I want a matching set of 15s.

I've decided I'm going to go with 15x7 fronts since I agree shinnies don't make sense for a daily, and I think 15x7 will look nice with the 10" rears for a slight rake while still being "practical".

I actually didn't measure :Dou:, but looked through a bunch of threads on backspace and tire sizing that people have been running. Based on what I've read, a 5.5" backspace on 15x10 rims will center them in the wheel well on a 70-72 Skylark/GS body, though I did read that each car varies in wheel well size. I also figured that I wouldn't really know the exact width of my combo until I get the tires mounted.

Worst case I can exchange the tires (got them from Summit) for 275s and keep the wheels. I've actually exchanged sizes through Summit before and it's not as much of a hassle as one might think. Let's hope they fit though!

It is not uncommon for a car body to be shifted a bit on the frame, so you have more room on one side and less on the other. You may be just fine with 5 1/2" of back spacing on a 10" rim, but there can be problems on some cars.

Ah I see! Well I hope they fit, either way I will report back and take pictures. Tires came in already, waiting on the wheels. I love living so near a Summit warehouse, most things I order come in a day or two!
    The 295s look meaty! :3gears:

The driver's side fit fine, though I may need to move the exhaust pipe a bit. The passenger side however hit the fender lip. I trimmed it (with the fender-well trim still on) with a cutoff wheel, making sure to do only small sections at once and let the metal cool in between.

Interesting to note that before I started cutting, some of the spot welds on the end of the arch farthest from the trunk were broken. My cutting doesn't seem to have broken any additional welds, but now I'm wondering if I should fill the gap with some sealer to prevent moisture from collecting in between the inner and outer panels?

The tires still rub a bit when I go over a big bump, but I just ordered some air bags from Summit so that should firm up the rear a bit.
