My original cam choice for my new build was a 290-08H.TA called yesterday and said they were back in stock. While I have been waiting on the I was given the 286-08h and a set of ported 73 stage1 heads and was curious if I would be leaving power on the table by not running the 290?The 286 and heads where never on same engine.

Healthy cams, both of them. These are the questions I'd ask myself before I made the decision: What is your goal for the car/engine? Can the heads handle that much lift without coil bind? Are the heads ported? Do you have piston/valve clearance? At least 9.5:1 CR? Are you using a big enough stall in the torque converter or is it stick?

Those look like pretty strong efforts for a street cam. The only real difference is a little more intake lift and duration. Unless you are a max effort bracket racer, I doubt you'll notice any difference except on the dyno. With Stage 1 ported heads, I'd think they would track close to the same in the quarter mile. Stock S1 heads might favor the 290-08H.

Just my opinion based on TA specs.

    Chris,

I can't see enough there to not use the cam you have.

Looks .009 more intake lift on the 290. That won't show on the time slip.
