How does an official appraisel work for cars as old as ours?

does anybody have one they care to post so we can all gawk?

Can anybody do appraisels or does it have to be done by a body shop approved for insurance work?

    Thanks
    Josh

i can only speak for ontario canada. the vehicle appraisers (not bodyshop appraisers), here, have had training & belong to recognized appraisal associations. the appraisal that i had done was 5 yrs ago before i had completed any restoration. i needed it for insurance purposes.
the appraiser (20 years experience) took many photographs and requested a copy of the buildsheet. what i received from him was a binder with a detailed written description of the vehicle, condition, etc., along with about 10 pictures of the car - passenger compartment, engine bay, trunk, side shots, front & rear shots, undercarriage shots, roof. the appraised value was listed in the document.
he derived value of the car comes from various auctions, sales books and experience.
my car needs to be re-appraised as i know that its value has increased several $$ sice 2000.

An Appraisal is done on the car to set a Value of a Specific Vehicle, for Various Reasons. Insurance, Legal Matters, Estates, Diminished Value (if in a Wreck) etc.
Vehicle is based on its merits, and compaired to similar Vehicles & Markets.
Just because 1 car sells at Scottsdale for "X" doesn't mean the next car is worth the Same/More or Less, nor does it set the value for the General Market.
A True Appraisal will cover a Specific Vehicle, and Information on THAT Vehicle. It CAN'T be done via Mailing Pictures & Money to someone and get an Honest figure, and MUST be done Hands on if it is to stand up in Court if Needed. "Bondo Billy's Body Shop" is NOT the place to get an Appraisal.
IF you need Information let me Know Via a PM, and I will try to help.
I CAN tell You, that trying to settle an Insurance claim, especially if a Total Loss is Difficult without a Set Value.
You can check out our website @ www.autoappraisal.com.
I Plan on being @ Salem & can do Appraisals There if Needed.

I am having an appraisal done by Auotappraisal.com right now. I will post some information when it is returned. What I did was call them to get an appraisal. Then a representative came to my house and took pictures of the car and also asked me questions about the condition, work done, etc. I also sent them information (receipts ect) of all the work that had been done to the car that I could find. They showed me an example of what I was going to get. I will post more when I get it.
