Are hundreds of hours of block sanding really worth it?

It doesn't seem so while you're doing it but when you get to this point, yes :) Ok, so it's not a Buick but I got the body back on the chassis today so I snapped a few pics.

    It depends.

If you want to restore it to GM standards, NO.

If you want to restore it like Rools Royce builds cars, YES.

I worked in a GM plant when these cars were new, and the build quality on a good day was mediocre.

Are you considering posting more pictures in the "members rides" section? I think a disclaimer about it being a Pontiac was a warning would be enough. Nice Work!!! And why is your shops so clean and tidy?

Now is that a Sears poncho, or a real poncho? /Frank Zappa

Mon, that is smooth and shiny. I likes it. You really gonna take that on the street?

If it were mine, heck yeah I'd drive it, it's a RAVI, 4 speed, 4.33 geared car. Numbers matching, too. I'm restoring it for a customer. It's doomed to be a trailer queen the rest of it's life, but he's got plenty of GTO drivers, he doesn't need to take this one on the road. Still, I'll have to test drive it when it's finished :3gears:

I'm kind of a fanatic about the shop. I actually thought it was a mess today. Look in the reflection, maybe you'll see it

That is absolutely awesome, and obviously an enormous amount of work. My hat is off to you for all the work you put into that project. Doesn't it feel good to just sit back and look at it? Good job.

No, this one is just a GTO but I did a virtual twin to this car 2 years ago that did have the Judge option. Here's a before and after shot of that car.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys. I really appreciate it. Every project has it's point where you finally feel like you've accomplished something and this is that point for me, getting the body back on the chassis. We're leaving for a 10 day vacation tomorrow morning and I really wanted to get this far with the car by then so I've been putting in some extra time on it.

Whether washing, polishing, waxing, or sanding, black paint requires the most work. Fortunately, it's also the most rewarding! :TU:

The care in your pre-painting prep is key to a great paintjob.

GrandNasty was painted in 1993 and many, many hours went into it's prep.
We let it cure in my driveway for 1 1/2 months before going back to the shop for color sanding and final polish.

This is that 17 year old paint job today. Still looks like it was done yesterday.
