I was wondering if the door windows on a 70-72 GS the same as a 70-72 Chevelle? If they are,I'd like to replace mine since I have a few small chips in the glass. Thanks for the info.
Carl Chevelle door glass will interchange, as well as Olds & Pontiac A-bodies. There is also a date code on the glass. Would be judged in Concours, I would assume. HTH Also there were two glass suppliers to GM at the time. Libbey Owens Ford (LOF) Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) Glass will be marked to identify supplier.
Carl, I was thinking about replacing mine as well. I saw in Hemmings a place that advertised all new glass for not a bad price, it's not in this ad but I think it was under $200 for the 4pc side glass. http://www.hemmings.com/images/pdfs/AutoCity_74818.pdf They have a website www.autocityclassic.com
if u can buy all new tinted side glass for $200 , go 4 it . i would imagine , however , that the rear glass price might be a little scary even for a chevelle .
I have a question, is the door glass different for a convertible? My passenger side has a small chip on the front edge and I would like to replace it at some point.
I have 4 full extra sets of side glass, I think its all soft ray tinted I would have to dig it out to get date codes , i think 2 sets are from 70 cars and 2 sets are from 72 cars. Have no idea what each piece is worth or exact condition but if anyone is interested I could check.
Conv 1/4 glass is definitely different. But I also thought the door glass was too??? o No: I have an extra non tint set from my 71 if you need it. Just let me know. :bglasses:
timr - ragtop glass tim: can u respond to these questions ? i know that the quarter glass is diff . i thought the door glass was same for 2 dr ht & convert .
Conv use the same doors and door glass. Conv qtr glass is specific to GM A-body convertibles only! As for door glass, you can use 70-2 Chevelle, Cutlass, LeMans, Skylark, Monte Carlo and Grand Prix.
I would be interested in the non-tinted glass, but all four pieces have to be mint(they would be going on my Stage 1 which you know I restored to concours condition). Now,the manufacturers logos all have to be the same and since my car is a '70 the glass has to match the date codes.(my car was built 5/70 which of course is late. Thanks!
