I went to .003+ and a Scavenger Oiling system. Problem fixed to far. You might want to get a dial indicator and go through each main at progressively higher torques to establish what torque gives you a perfectly round main bore. Adding the girdle and longer studs may shift things around a little on your main bore.o No: These bottom ends are finicky. Good luck.
Have a set of 351 Cleveland studs coming. Should be here in a couple of days. I will measure and post the results.
Doesn't SRE make a pan for this application? TA , anyone? If you sell a girdle IMHO you shoud sell a pan t make it fit. Interesting to see if this hits the cross member.
Specifically? Doubt it. Too many variables due to crossmember config, oil pan design requirements, engine position, etc. TA markets their halo girdle only as a supplement to the block girdle. While a stock pan setup may work on an engine w/block girdle only, they state the following regarding addition of the halo: The TA halo girdle would be even worse for clearance due to the 3/8" thickness and it looks to be an inch or two wider to boot. Larry "larry70gs" had an oil pan for sale on this board that he could not use for some reason. It is an SRE pan. The plan for the next engine is to have a halo only, so I "should" be able to use my current TA oil pan. Currently my engine has neither (halo or girdle) and it is surviving so far, but does have ARP main studs. As with most others the power will be greater.
Tom, The studs I bought since I heard that they were longer in fact are shorter than the Buick studs I have (TA1120). The buick studs (all ten) are 4.635" long each The 351 Cleveland studs (all ten) are 4.405" long each. So, they are 0.203" shorter, but they are broched. For some reason the block threads are longer on the 351 Cleveland studs. I guess they go into the block farther? Anyone want to but a new set of 351 Cleveland main studs?
Sorry for not responding sooner. My appologies on the data. The machine shop told me they had to use trimmed 351 Cleveland studs to get the extra height and and I published their feedback figuring they were correct. Perhaps the owner had a set of studs from another trial of different studs on his shelf and thought they were from a Cleveland. I know the standard length 455 studs were too short in my application. Based on Mike's info don't use the Cleveland stud length. Tom
