    Peter,

The Nuts your seeing (on top of the windage screen) are a little short partly due to the windage screen). Withou the screen, the studs almost come to the top of the nut. These are the longest studs they had. The people that make the kit are working on getting longer ones. You actually have to be very carfull putting this kit together (watching how far down the stude is in the mian ) If you sink them to far, you won't get the girdle on at all! If you don't put them in far enough (so the studs are poking out of the nut) then chances are, the nut you torqued the main stud with bottomed out because you ran out of thread.

I've mocked this up 4 times now and that's the most sud I can have sticking out feeling comfortable that I'm going to get an accurate torque reading.

There is ALOT more bite on the studs than the impression you get from the pics. I didn't have any trouble torquing the ones on top holding the screen to 70lbs. I'm sure it will hold fine.

Rich,I am wondering if you shouldn't "relieve" the windage screen around he studs and weld (hardened?)washers to the screen. My thinking being that you may lose some torque load as the screen distorts under the nuts over time.

Second, don't forget to make a hole in the windage screen for the dipstick tube. I did when I put mine on and didn't find out until just before I fired it. :Dou:

Very good Suggestions Adam :TU: Especialy the dipstick hole (I would have forgeten it for sure). I'll also be welding some washers onto the screen, as they will allow me to get a little more threads in the nuts.

And here it is as Adam suggested (almost 2 hours latter :) )...

Notice the color of the Halo? (it used to be black). Upon "finnal install" I noticed the paint was flaking on some of edges :( The last thing you want is your pickup tube screen filled with paint chips. It took over 2 hours to removed all the paint and get it cleaned up  (two unexpected hours).

I've spent the last 2 hours fighting the pan. I've had to cut and bend more of the scraper. It's still hitting just a tad, so I may have to file the holes a bit to sided the pan over towards the passenger side.... I'm sick of messing with it for now  I may hit it again in an hour or two. At this point, I'll be pushing it hard to get it fired up and the cam broke in tomorrow.

    I'll keep you posted.

Rich - Was that paint on that girdle? :eek2:

In my opinion, the only 'coating' that belongs on a girdle is anodizing. You can still clearance the girdle and not worry about flaking.:Smarty: (Been there...done that - with Chevies/Fords anyways).

Your girdle looks better 'all natural' anyways!!:TU:

On the bright side...looks like you're almost there!!!:bglasses:

Rich, brand kind of harmonic balancer is that? Tell me thats not an ATI! I tried on of those once and couldn't get it to work with stock pulleys:af:

    Hey Scott,

What ever it was, it was awfull thick. I'm leaning towards it being a BAD powder coat job. I'll try and find out for sure and let you know. I'll also be letting the manufacture NOT to coat them with it :Brow: .

    Hey Jeff,

It's not an ATI. It's the ballancer I got from TXGS (phil) awhile ago. The brand is Romac and it required a little bit of grinding on the front of the timing cover for clearance.

Nothing like a 4:30am head retorque on Sunday :beer

Not that I woke up just for that purpose  I had to get up at 5am to get ready for work, so I figured why not make it a bit earlier and get one of the retorques over with :) .

I'm hoping I can get the motor all sealed up and matted to the freash 700r4 (with the new hardend shaft and drum) tonight. At this point, I'll be lucky if I can get it fired up by mid week (times real tight until then). Hopefully everything goes smooth with it and the tranny. If so, VIVA LAS VEGAS here we COME!! Man I LOVE Vegas :beer

    Balancer...

    Hey Rich,
When I first bolted my supercharger crank pulley on, I noticed it wobbling. Come to find out, my 33 year old v groove pulley was bent, warped. Then on futher inspection I noticed my 33 year old harm. dampner was also falling apart. The rubber middle ring was cracking and coming out letting the outter part become offset.
So I also ordered a Romac dampner. At the time I bought it, no told me about having to grind down the lower lip of my timing cover AND having to buy a longer center bolt:mad:
I waisted an hour putting it on THEN finding all this out:af: Did you have a problem with your supercharger crank pulley not spinning straight after bolting to your crank v groove pulley? I've got a march 6 groove serpentine crank pulley water pump pulley and alternater pulley coming to solve the wobbling problem.
I'll call you when I'm ready to fab the cold air intake for my charger........Rick

    Re: Balancer...

Man, I'm sorry someone forgot to tell you about the mods needed to run that balancer. I knew going into it that the timing cover would need to be shaved from reading the board here :) I had to find out about the longer bolt on my own as well.

As for the Vgroov pulley, mine line up just fine, with no woble at all. I haven't had an issue with it what so ever.

Give me a gingle when your ready to start building that air intake, and I'll shoot you some pics, give you a parts list, and give you the low down and setting it up. You will find it does ALOT of good! Well worth the 80.00 to 100.00 bucks and the 2 hours it will take to build.

Yeah, I was told that about the ATI balancer I bought also:confused: I could not find a way to bolt on the pulley and get the belts to even come close to lining up. Has anyone made a ATI balancer work?? Anyways I think I was told that Fischer or BHJ was the only SFI-approved balancers to work with stock pulleys??

Romac?, I've never heard about them until now. Is it SFI-approved and did you have any pulley alignment issues? I understand you got yours from TSGS Rich, but do you know where to buy these from and about how much these are?

You can get the Romac balancer from several places new. The cheepest I found when I was looking was at AM&P (the Kentucky boys) price was around 325 I believe. It is an SFI unit, and I didn't have any issues at all with the stock pulleyes lining up! Once the timing cover was shaved, and I had a bolt that was about 3/4 of an inch longer (I had to make one out of a grade8 bolt that was 1 inch too long) it was good to go. Got it install and never looked back. No belt issues what so ever.

I got my balancer from Automotive Machine and Performce in Philpot Ky. Ask for Mike Or Freddie. Cost was $309 plus shipping. Email me for 800 number if interested. Rick
