:3gears: The orange one is my fathers 70 W31. He bought it last week from a local collector. He looks good with the windows down and his white beard blowing in the wind. :3gears:
Looks awesome. Oldsmobile made so many W-series that it is hard to keep track of them all, but they are very nice cars. :beer :TU: What kind of rear-end differential did the W-31, like listed above, come with? Just curious... :Comp:
This car is an auto. with a 342 posi. Not many options. Radio and power steering is about it. Car has a good little lope to it. A HP 350 c.i. rated at 325 hp. Plain old Cutlass with a little performance. Most that have looked at it say it's a good looking 442, but it's not one.
Seems like a great combo. Speaking of people saying that was a 442, I always thought myself the W-series cars were 442s! Shows how much I pay attention to detail ou: I looked at the photo's and seen no 442 badging, but I notice they sure have a lot in common with the 442 appearance:hood scoops and the rear spoiler :Brow: Guess you learn somethin new everyday. Since they didn't have the 442 bading im guessing they might have been cheaper from the factory than a 442? :Brow: Very nice car. This subject is very interesting :Comp:
The W31 was a poor mans performance car. The W30 was a fast 442, but the W31 was just a Cutlass. Earlier ones were called Ram Rods. They also had a Ralley 350 which had a 10 hp less 350 engine. It was rated at 315 (I think) and the W31 was rated at 325. Insurance was also cheaper for these cars. A W32 was a Cutlass Supreme body with a lower hp 455 in it. Too many W's! I never knew there was this many till dad started liking them a couple of years back. I have had to learn much about them so he didn't get burned when purchasing one.
Well, we finally got around to finishing the 442. There have been many little things to bite us in the rear, but I think they all are taken care of now. Here was its first road trip. The Knoxville Auto Expo. :Brow:
Dad took his W 31 too. That made a total of 3 Olds A-bodies. I only saw 1 Buick A-body. This was out of about 1000 cars yesterday. :spank: Last year they had a total of 1800 cars in the 3 days of the event. A white GSX from TN won the muscle car catagory. He may even be a member on here. I don't know. o No:
Here is one more as it was in the judging lanes. We left it over night giving it one more day to show off for Sunday's crowd. If you were owned by an old woman all your life driving 30 mph, wouldn't you want to be put on display too now that you are a 442? :Brow:
