The question keeps coming up.. Who is THE (BEST) Buick machine shop in the area?? Do they OWN and USE torque plates? Or if they don't own torque plates, are they willing to USE them correctly? What are all of you're experiences with local machine shops? Good or bad... How expensive, how accurate, any problems that arose, ect. I heard one name, ABCO. Any feedback?o No: BTW, the guy who did my only machinework on my Buick is no longer with us!:ball: He didn't KNOW Buicks, but he was VERY ATTENTIVE to details, and did a VERY GOOD JOB for me! Now I'm needing another short-block done, and someone else living close to me also is looking for a good Buick shop, close by. Dave Knutsen, I HOPE you will reply!!
jre was having his small block done. Last I heard the shop he was using seemed to be willing to take notes from TA. Maybe he's got it done and can fill in some information.
I have brought three motors to ABCO. Jim is also a machinist that listens. The great thing with Jim at Abco, is he has done many, many Buick engines, and is very proud of his successes. What makes the whole deal work with Jim having great success is Dave Knutsen. He is a wealth of knowledge on what makes the motors run well and communicates with Jim on his tolerances and expectations. I know that Dean Kaufman also has great success with a shop closer to Kent/Auburn area. He also communicates well with the machinists and gets great results. Just ask John Biggs with his great runs this last summer. BTW, Abco moved or is in the process of moving closer to Seattle. Their phone number is the same though. Its a 1-800 number.
