This post is to inform all Car Show Participants of the mandatory rule regarding a fire extinguisher in the car. The rules state: 4. All vehicles to be judged must have a UL approved fire extinguisher in an easily accessible place in the vehicle. This is not an option. You must have an UL approved fire extinguisher in your car in order to participate in the Car Show portion of the BPG Nationals. WE WILL BE CHECKING FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS! If you do not have one now, go buy one (you really need one anyway, what with the 30 to 40 year old wiring and fuel systems we have...ever see a grown man cry as he watches his pride and joy go up in flames???). Forewarned is forearmed! Get that fire extinguisher today.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS !!!!!! I was selling a FINE '62 Wildcat in the car corral at the '96 Auburn KRUSE Auction. Guy was gonna buy it after the test drive......kicks it down on I-69 and it backfires and throws a belt then breaks a glass filter bowl and FIRE!!!! If not for a passing motorist with an extinguisher it would have been a TOTAL LOSS. Think about it. Peace WildBill P.S. detailed the engine compartment and painted the car and did a little better the next year.
Another testimony to fire extinguishers: View at your own risk! http://www.buickpartsdirectory.com/rides/marwan_64_skylark.htm
Guys, One thing to note; the Fire Extinguishers do not have to be mounted on the car. I completely understand about not wanting to drill holes in a restored car. However, they do need to be put in an accessible place, like laying on the passenger side floor or in the trunk. Duane
Oh yeah, spend the extra $ and get a Halon one....... dry chemical ones are a real BITCH to clean up Peace WildBill
Hey Folks, this is very important to adheere to, not only is it required by most car shows, but is a good piece of defense should anything happen, PLEASE try to let everyone you know coming to the event that WE strongly recomend you have an extinguisher in YOUR car. thanks, Bruce
Thanks! I never would have thought of it, although I used to carry one in all my cars! Thanks for the reminder! Who's gonna be set up at the entrance selling fire extinguishers? - Bill
I keep a can of this stuff in my car (glovebox), as well as some cans 'around the house' http://www.firefreeze.com/site/index.cfm It's also supposed to cool very hot surfaces very quickly with no warpage. and, yes, it's 'UL' listed.
I agree with you guys 100%-fire extinguishers are cheap insurance, especially if the unlikely happens. I carry one in all my cars.
