On the front of the Series II 3.8 there is a 90* elbow that comes out of the lower intake, and directs coolant through the housing that holds the belt tensioner, and exits towards the heater. (Who's bright idea was that?) This fitting literally pees coolant from the manifold side, even with out any pressure in the system. Is it a simple rubber O-ring that failed? Do I need to buy a new elbow kit from a GM dealer? If so, what do I ask for? It doesn't look too bad to get at, aside from removing the alternator and belt tensioner. ????? Any tips appreciated!!!!! I first thought it was the upper plenum gasket. But after a good cleaning at the self serve, and getting some light on the area. I started the car and it streams out! :eek2:
I have replaced that O ring many times. You can get it at a GM dealer or match it up at a parts store.
Oh Yeah! A couple years ago I flushed all that Dex-Cool out and replaced it with tried and tru green stuff. Today, when the car started overheating, my wife stopped at a service station and they filled it back up with Dex-Cool!!! So now I have a contaminated system that will need another complete flushing!
Dale.....it could be an O-ring.... but if you are going to replace the oring....... you better replace the elbow as well. I have had alot of them that were cracked around where the oring seats, and that is what was actually leaking. Mike
