Well that's pretty interesting to know they had that technology back in 64 I never new that, thank you for the explanation. Good luck with the sale!
Not sure which year, but after 64 they went with a different style unit and moved it outside. The control for it has the instructions handing from it on the interior shot. To activate it you first pushed down your headlight dimmer switch half way (different switch for cars equipped with it)
That's awesome! Since you posted the pics I know I have seen that on cars before but never knew what it was for.
Yes- it came out in ‘52. I’v never in my life seen it mounted outside the windshield. Regardless of make/model; its always mounted inside on the dash, until the sensor moved to behind the grille circa ‘65. The pics of it cowl mounted are completely bizarre.
Early to mid 60's saw it moved to the front fender . My dad had a 54 and a 58 Oldsmobile with it inside the windshield .
The type on mine were never installed on the inside and the ones you picture were not used inside or outside when the newer style came out. “A” body mounted as shown on mine and big body cars had it mounted closer the center of the cowl. Yes, they were a Buick accessory as seen here in the Buick accessory brochure. I bought a couple NOS units years ago in case I would ever need to replace mine or parts. Not sure what the last year this style was offered, it went through at least 1972
