Hi! I want to put 15"-Rims on my Skylark. Im from Germany and the problem is, that i have to prove (by a factsheet or a brochure from 1968) that 15"-Rims were available for the Skylark or GS at that time. Otherwise i have to mount the boring 14s (which is the max. size - thats whats written in my repair book). Does anybody know if 15 inch Wheels were available for the Skylark or GS in 1968? If YES, where can i find some material which i can show to the Technical Inspector? Cheers, Mika
Hi David, thanx for your quick answer. I just shot a Stage 1 Brochure on ebay :TU: . I know it has been built from 1969 but hopefully the Inspectah gets convinced by the available options. Do you know the exact width of the 15"-rims on the Stage 1? BTW, the "TÜV" (German Technical Inspection Authority) says that the car has to be as genuine as possible. That includes the brakes too. Did they offer a rear-disc back in 68/69??? Cheers, Mika
Stage 1 pkg had no bearing on wheels/tires. I don't think 15's were offered in 69 either, but a 69 expert will have to confirm that. Sorry, no rear disc brakes, front option only.
I believe (not positive) that 1970 was the first year for 15's on the GS/Skylark models, as an option.
thanx, i just got an 1972 assembly manual which i bought on ebay. 15x7 chrome wheels are listed as an option...great! How about headers? Did they offer them optional in the 70s? BTW, How many pistons did the 70s front-disc-brake had? cheers, mika
You're welcome, hope my info has been mostly accurate. I'm surprised no one else with more expertise has added to your thread.
hi, of course it´s allowed to customize your car but you have to register the vehicle as a regular car. that means large costs. the taxes are calculated by the engine-size. i´d pay about 1500 Euros a year. in addition to the current fuel-prices (1,60 euro per liter) this would bust my wallet. i want to drive my skylark with a "historic license plate" (cheap taxes and insurance). since 2007 the only way to get this license is to restore the original condition. an inspector from the technical inspection agency examines the car and checks every little bolt on its originality. btw, i have to bring any readable stuff (repair books, brochures etc.) by my self. otherwise he can´t check. that´s pretty annoying. thanx to ebay, got a lot books till now :TU: greetz, mika
