I am in the process of having a gsx style spoiler reworked to fit on a 70 wildcat and was wondering if there was any interest for production of this part. Basically if it would be worth the effort of having a mold made at the local fiberglass shop to mass repro this customized part.:Do No:
    Your input would be appreciated.:beers2:

Wow, it seems I'm not the only crazy LeSabre/Wildcat person that wants to do a 6-speed forced induction on a full size car. You're actually making it happen, which is beyond my financial (read: broke because in college) means.

Would this be a cosmetic spoiler, or would you actually have any sort of wind tunnel testing done?

It would be an interesting idea to model spoilers on the body in something like Solidworks and then use the basic computational fluid dynamics software to analyze it. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent, but I think the b-body's need as much aerodynamic help as possible.

Sounds very cool. But I just dunno If I'd ever use one. It would sure look good on that beast in your avatar!

    Romy,
I can send you pics if you want to put some air flow numbers to the spoiler when its done? It will be mounted at the same angle and height as on the GSX.:TU:

Muscle car, or one of the "power block" programs shower how to make your own part then reverse-engineer it to make a mold. Very cool!!!

I would like to see something very similar for my 67 Riviera project. Have you got any dimensions so I could compare the width to my Riviera? Are you drawing it up on Cad first and then building it, or just modifying an existing unit until it works with your Wildcat? I like the looks so far. What is your projected cost of the unit?
    Let me know, Randy

well for starters, I bought a GSX style repo spoiler for like $250. cut it in half and added about 8 inches to center. then, resculpting the side edges to contour the qtrs, and resculpting the mounting bases to match the deck lid.

After mine were finished, I thought of talking to a local glass shop to make a mold to repop a few of these if there were any interest, but so far none. and no idea on a cost yet since it would only fit 69-70 B-bodies.

My thoughts for the Riv, take a look at and think about an olds 442 style spoiler for a starting point??? I'm contemplating one for my 70 GS Riv.

I know the 442 spoiler you are talking about, but I don't think the turned up ends would look right in the Riviera. I have a picture of a Riviera that someone tried to put a GSX spoiler on, but the guy didn't rework the ends, it was mounted at a weird angle, and really looked out of place on the car. The way you did the one on the Wildcat looks much better. Guess I am going to have to follow your lead and play with a GSX spoiler until it looks right.
Just another task to add to my list!!! Later, Randy

update. the car should be in final paint by the end of June and back in my garage for final assembly. She's only been completely apart since May of '01.

Actually, the headlights and grills are just not installed yet. it would be a very sweet idea to hide them though:idea2: it might be in the works in the future....just need to find a set now....

It actually lloks and fits your bodystyle rather well. But, due to it size and location, you'd probably have to be travelling 200 mph plus for it to actually have any effect on handling/traction.

Hey ghostrider, how's it going on the project? Got any pics of the final product? I mean the car AND the spoiler. I'd be interested to know how much one would cost before i committed to anything.

Looks freakin awesome in the old pics tho, whether it's functional or not! :beer

:Do No: in an unfortunate turn of events, the car is still not done, and it isn't even painted. after paying a lot of cash to a local shop the guy decides to go out of business in sept '08, not refund any cash, and find out that requested work was done only half-assed and rust was not media blasted or removed, just bondoed over thickly... and near flawless arizona sheet metal is buried under literally gallons of mud for no rhyme or reason... to add insult, i still haven't got all of my parts back yet either...guy admits to having them, just dont know where they are... and stuff that was sent out to be rechromed, thats a whole other novel of lies.... and i keep getting dicked around every time i try to contact this a--hole... so the car went into another shop the same day it was "kicked out" of the first shop, was to be done for pickup 4-1-09, well this shops owner had some severe medical issues for a couple months and got behind rather quickly, coupled with my lack of space and lack of time to finish the car this year, the finish date for the paint has been set to 3-1-10, giving me the time necessary to get her back together by may for some shows, whether or not it will be done, i can only hope so. and as far as pics go, i haven't taken any new ones since nothing has changed, almost another year later... i just hope that my two year project doesn't turn into a full ten year project...  frustration is about all i have at this point for this car.
