Im going to be replacing the tailshaft seal and i figured while i was under there i would update the tranny oil pan and put in a shift kit. how are b&m and trangs go kits? Any good or bad stuff on them? i know trans go costs more while b&m costs less. which would you guys use? Also, are there instructions on where to put the lil ball bearings that roll around in the valve body? I was also looking at jegs website and saw an trany oil cooler that mounts to the frame rail. What do you think about them? Its a 71 skylark with 350/ th350

    John,
You can't go wrong with either shift kit. I have used both and no problems. I have a B&M in my current TH-400 and I have a Trans-go in another(350 tranny)both work well. There are detailed instructions you must pay attention to very closely. You get the correct drill bits and the instructions are simple to understand but lengthy. If you had the availability of new gaskets, you really wouldn't need to get a shift kit.You can use your stock plates and drill them. But,if this is one of the 1st times,I highly suggest trying the B&M. Cost will be lower, but same results. You have 2 options in the kit,RV and street/strip. Also, you should use a oil cooler due to heat being built up in the tranny. There is also a kit to relocate the oil cooler to the frontby using hoses inside the frame rail as to not interfere with exhaust or headers. I would also suggest a pan with a drain plug installed or install the oil plug kit. It is simple to do a 1/2 inch hole and a file to take rough edges off or pans can be bought off Ebay for 15 bucks with plugs installed.
