I just finished putting on my heads this morning. The car fired right up and runs like a champ. Im so happy right now you can't believe the trouble I went through to get this done. Now with my free time im hunting down a 455 to build up. My car is running better and quieter than before. Fixed an exhaust leak while I was at it.
Nicely detailed.!!:TU: What are the wire holders?? the ones on the wires not on the valve covers Just curious?!:Smarty:
Thanks Michael. Im not sure of the brand. I got them at PAW. They do tidy up the wires quite a bit. Now im waiting for the sun to go down for some night time cruising.:TU: I'll try to find the brand for you.
I agree with Mike....VERY nicely detailed... Glad to see you're back on the road. All these head problems are making me tired! Time to get a set of TA headers on there now:Brow:
Right on Adam. Im not sure but I dont think TA makes headers for 350's. Or do they? This would sure make a nice upgrade. Actually what I want to do is start buying up parts for a 500 hp 455. Aluminum heads, cam, intake, adjustable rockers. Pretty much all the bells and whistles. I have a nice budget set aside for this. I would send it out to get done by one of guys on the board but I want to do this on my own to continue the learning process.
Not that it matters, but here:grin: http://www.taperformance.com/headers.htm I just bought a set of the 455 headers and they're HUGE. Can't wait to get them on with the x pipe...if it has clearance. mmmmm...dynomax. A guy I put an irrigation system in for is installing everything for around $300. Not bad considering Meineke was asking $800 without even touching the headers.
Should sound quite healthy when your done. Headers make a very nice sound and you should see at the very least an extra 10-15 HP. I guess pretty soon your car will lift the front end like your old avatar. Ivan
Hey Ivan, nice detailing. Can I give you a suggestion? The carb return spring looks to be a single spring unless I'm looking at it wrong. If it is do yourself a favor and put a dual spring on it.There is no feeling like a WOT engine that is in gear.IT REALLY MAKES IT INTERESTING TILL YOU SHUT IT OFF AND HOOK THE BAD THING BACK UP.Take it from someone who found out, luckily not the hard way. Pat:laugh:
Ivan - Glad to see things back together and looking great!!!:TU: :bglasses: Wish I could have made it up there to see things in person.ou: Looks like next weekend would be my last chance to meet up with you guys. Did you get the dist. Dave did for you installed? That should be a nice finishing touch....looks and performance wise!!:TU:
Talkin about headers I wonder if anyone has though about making a billet adapter to use the big 455 headers on a well moded 350??? Seen some in summit for chevy. Kinda like using 4bb to 2bb adapter but since its ruiing "backwards" it should be helpful and not restrictive. it is almost 3am so I may just be hi on life. Matt uzzled:
TA makes the bigger headers for the 350. Instead of the regular Competition headers with 1 5/8 tubes and 3" collectors, the Super Comps have 1 3/4" tubes and 3" collectors. I know not much difference, but it helps a bit. I'm sure you've probably seen this on their website though. HTH!o No: :beer
You can get the double throttle return springs from Autozone, in the HELP! section, the isle with the red packages on the wall. The double springs have one inside the other, they work good.
The spring trick is a real good idea. I have 2 stockers and another piece of spring off a screen door. It makes the gas pedal real tight by being a Buick, just the weight of your foot is enoug to do 35-40. Matt uzzled: I think it also helps to save gas as I do not give it more than it needs as I have more of a feel with the tighter springs.
Double return springs? Another reason to run double throttle return springs is they are mandated by most if not all tracks(drag)that run under nhra sanctions for obvious reasons. Another food for thougt item is that since a qj doesnt have a built in return spring as almost all holley carbs its a good idea to run the extra(or stock dual setups as I do)for safetys sake
