    Hello all,
Well this weekend I got a 72 S. Found it at a local swapmeet. So after 5 years of Oldslessness I have one again. Plans are for a W30 clone to run at pure stock. I do have a question though: What is a legitimate et and mph for a 72 W30? I was looking in Hemmings Muscle Machines and saw John Kryta's car. It's a 28k original mile car running low 13's at 108 with 4.11 gears. This sounds too good for 8.5:1 compression. Any thoughts?

Wasn't aware that James' car had ever been on a dragstrip. Has never been at a Pure Stock event. Know what's in the engine, who machines it, who built it, etc., etc. Just didn't realize it's been raced. Pretty heavy car to run those numbers in Pure Stock. Detweiler's green car is the fastest legal BBO (or any Olds, for that matter) so far at 12.50-12.60 range. Tom Miller built a really good 72 W30 from a Detweiler race car. Can't recall what it ran, but maybe you can find out here and I'd use that as a target. He doesn't leave anything on the table on his cars.

Well it didn't say in the article that it had been but in their specs summary it had an et and mph.
Does anyone have an email for any purestock specific questions? I'd like to convert this car to non/ac with the american graffitti aftermarket parts and want to know if it'll jive with the rules.

I do not know what parts you want to convert but there is not much room to modify from stock. I think Tom Millers Olds ran a best of 12.97 don't remember the MPH. Detweiler's car ran 12.58 @ 110 @ norwalk three or four times in a row! At Stanton this year he was running a 71 442 4-speed car :3gears: that was stuck in the 14's all day then he pulled a 13.40 out????? Wow I wish the pace car would pull out a 6 tenths improvment!
His 70 with an imported driver ran 12.66.
My buddy Jeff in the 71 W-30 4-speed ran 13.88 @ 102, we think there is more there.

I don't think many people are running that low compression no matter what year car. Read the rules carefully. Sometimes it's better not to ask....especially on line. :bglasses:

yeah, Tom's car (the silver W-30 replica  ) ran in the 12s. I think like 12.7 or 12.8

you can build a motor like how I did, although since mine is the original engine, I didn't build it to the max. ideally, I'd like to build another one. a little more towards the limits, this way I can store my numbers matching engine.

    leave it a Cutlass S.

442 emblems wont make it go faster. :Dou:

    72 S

They won't let a 72 S run at Pure Stock will they? It's not a performance model so I don't think so.
