Thinking about this in the latest Hemi vs Buick posts for the Spike TV brouhaha. In an earlier life, I used to frequent cruises, then grew to hate them. Traumatic events do that to you. Unfortunately late one night, old age and an insatiable thirst for Bud Light both hit at the same time and I got spread across the hood of a Redford cop car for pissing. Not in my pants (that probably would have been OK), but behind a wall nearby. End of cruises for me.  "A man needs to know his limitations"

I now live near Bakers' in Milford and my dark side (street rods) is pulling at me to start leaning that way again. Anybody here frequent that one? May also be a good place to hand out a few fliers for PSMCDR, too. Dan and Bob did that at Woodward years back and sure worked on us. Sunday afternoons.

Tried to get in there last year right after the owner died and the place was packed and we were turned away 4 miles from there about 2 hours before it officially started. Never seen so many really nice cars at one place.

Neighbor's just finishing up his 40 Chev and also likes beer, so we'll be hitting there in that for sure. My car looks way too ratty to park near it.

You should've saved some of your piss for the front of the cop car....

Customs and street rods are way cool. As much as I love this originality stuff, it would be liberating to build a rod exactly how I want it to be. Purple paint daub on the firewall? Screw that -- I'm gonna purple ceramic coat the headers! Plain steel wheels? Naw, something wild and chrome. I could engineer my own chassis, add a super charger, candy paint, and put leather on the inside.

Have you got room in your garage for another project, Dave?

Did the big Bakers show last year, got there early enough to get in and saw a lot of nice cars. Had a nice little Buick contingent. The Sloan show in June is great, not that big but good quality. You do have to see a lot of Buicks though. There is a nice little cruise in Flushing every 3rd Sat of the month. Its at the A&W drive in and they usually have a band. I heard that Brighton has a Wed deal going but have not seen it.

    Dave,

I try to hit the Sunday Baker's show with my T whenever the weather is decent. Nice drive from Brighton if you go the back way around the GM Proving Grounds. They usually fill the parking lot and most of the field in back. Usually not too many Buicks. Maybe another turbo car or two but rarely a V8 ride that I've noticed. Lots of Chebbies and Mopars though.

Sailbird, where in Brighton on Weds.?

The nice things about "Hot Rods" is that everything is right, because that is the way "You Want It"!!!!! Not someone elses interpretation.

Jump in for sailbird here........I think the Weds cruise is at "Memories" on old 23. Haven't been there recently, but see a lot of cars running that way around here on Weds afternoons.

I couldn't agree more. I'm building one the way I wish Olds had back when I was there (68 W30 with a real motor in it).

Dave, The cruise at Milford is GREAT !! Our Buick club went there a couple of years ago, and they reserved a place for the whole group.
I agree about the street rod feeling. I built my Coupe D' Grape (37 Buick coupe with 455 buick power) a few years ago because I knew what I wanted, and nobody made what I wanted.

As Sailbird said " The A&W in Flushing does a great job", and they have a 1972 cutoff. They still get 400-600 cars, and you need to get there early. the April cruise supposedly started at 5 PM and the lots were 3/4 full by 3 PM.

I am always busy on Wed so just passing along what a few others have told me about a Brighton area cruise. Sounds like there is something going on but I have bike rides on Wed and Thur.

I have found a few other Buicks in the Fenton area and will try and get them to the Flushing A&W cruise on May 20. The 72 cut off does make it so we cannot bring the GN and that kinda sucks.

I thought that might be it too, but I don't recall them doing that anymore as of last summer. Too bad if so, it's about a mile down the road.

Yeah, I get that a lot with my T even though its probably the most "classic musclecar" that I own right now.

I've also heard that the Big Boy in Hartland on M59 has a cruise on Tuesday nights.

Anyway, I agree handing out PSMCDR flyers at any/all of these types of events in this area would be a good way to drum up some more participants.
