Ball joint won't take grease ?!?

I'm on the last leg of a front end rebuild including all busings and steering components. We were greasing the ball joints and for some reason one of the upper ball joints won't take any grease. The grease gun nozzle fits nicely on the valve, but it's really hard to press any grease in, and it kind of only overflows from the valve. We tried two different valves with the same result, and if you poke around in the hole with a pin, it doesn't feel blocked. Any ideas of what is causing this and what can be done about it? The ball joint came from Kanter, and the other ones filled up nicely with no problems. Could it be that it is stuck in a closed position somehow and needs to be worked a little to seat itself? Any input is much appreciated.

On older ones I've applied a little heat but be very careful grease will catch afire quickly

Since it is an upper one.....replace it...something is defective.

It would be a real step backwards to have to order a new one, take the arm out, and re-do that whole part. We'll see what we can do with it tomorrow night. But if something is wrong with it, I guess it will have to go out. I'll call Kanter and see what they have to say also.

Uppers are easy...you pop the balljoint and then just remove them...no need to take off the arm.

Pop it with a hammer, puller, or?

Have a buddy turn the steering wheel from side to side while trying to pump grease in at the same time. If it still won't take grease, replacement is not that difficult. Do it in the car rather than removing the control arm.

    Good luck!

Hopefully that will do it. I'm not sure if we could get to the inner tack welds when the arm is on the car.

I backed out the valve a couple of turns, and it took the grease. I guess it was bottoming out on some inner part and blocking the hole.
