Trying to figure out if my carb is 100% correct for the car or not. It is a "243" Quad and the car is a 4 speed 400. I am wondering about this air bleed.....

Pm techg8 - he'll help you out. He's been doing a lot of documentation on untouched originals

    what year 243?
Can you post a picture of what you are describing?
I believe the base plates are same as 240 carbs. There are internal differences in main body and air horn POE are different.

I had Catlin rebuild my carb, cause quite honestly I really enjoyed talking to him and also enjoy the drive. He is a super nice guy who knows an amazing amount. Anyway, he called me and said that the base plate was wrong and I needed to come back. It has been 2 weeks and now all of a sudden it's wrong. I am confused what may be different and also the date on mine is 2228 and works with my build date. I don't know what to do....

Again, what year? 69 I am guessing. There are differences between years on the base, between 68, 69, 70

Sorry, it's a 69 and my concern is I wanna keep what's original just that.

The date code is 2228 so late 68 for a 69 right?

He said, "it has a '67 base" and something about an air bleed valve. But how can it be a '67 base with a 2228 date? I really think he is just after my headers for his stocker as they are 2" primaries....

Well, just got home from class at Professor Catlin's Carburetor School. The man is an amazing plethora of knowledge and I should have never worried. I am soooo glad I met him....
