    hey guys,

I just had to put this up on the board! i've got an '84 chevy truck with a 455 (literally out of my grandmothers '71 electra). I put hooker super comp headers, B4B intake, and a holley 850 on it. I've got a limited slip rear end with 3.73 gears, and M/T et street tires on it. The very first time at the track, this ole "beater" ran 8.40 in the 1/8 mile with a 1.89 60 ft time, and 79 MPH. I think i could have improved quite a bit over this, but i hurt the motor trying to get the tires hotter for better traction ( after all, this is a "84 chevy truck!) i accidentally ran her up to about 6500 rpm pulling out of my burnout. as of now, it has no oil pressure at idle, and about 10 psi at around 2000 rpm.:Dou:
All this is especially exciting because i'm building the motor for this truck as we speak, this motor was just as a "beater" until i get the other one built.
the other engine will be a 455 with standard bore stage 2 pistons (11:1), negative deck the block .010, minor port work on heads, KB107 cam, same intake, carb, headers, etc..

i don't know how to post these figures in the timeslip section yet, hopefully someone can chime in to help me out.

sorry this seems so long, but it was a lot better than i immagined, so i felt i had to pass it along.

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

David, pretty simple. Go to "user CP", click on "edit vehicle profile", and enter the info there!!!

Easier than falling off a log!!:TU:

For us who've never had the displeasure of running an eighth-mile run, what would those numbers equate to in a 1/4 mile?

I'd guess that would equate to mid-low 13's?
    :Do No:

Seems darn quick for a stock 455 in a big truck!

    chryco63 14's or bust!

Congrats, David! I'm always one for the "who-da thunk-it" engine swaps, and it's cool to hear about a beater like yours running 13's! :TU: Got any pics of that hauler?

    David,

Good job. I have a Cheby with a 454 in it and can't get under a 2.2 60 ft. Don't know how to get hooked up like you. What size tires?

thanks for the heads up greg. i'll add that right away.

i'll give the 1/4 run time as soon as i fix the oil pressure problem (even though i'm afraid it's a bearing). the track i was at only had the 1/8 mile timeing system working that night. starting next week the 1/4 mile time will be working.

i'll try to get a few pics of it pretty soon, but it's not much to look at. it's about 5 different colors currently (kinda sleeper like:laugh: )

the tires are mickey thompson et streets. i believe the size is 13.5x28x15. it took a lot of shopping to find wheels with the correct backset to get these tires to fit under there.

i'll post the 1/4 mile as soon as i can get it. i just hope i can get some times in on this beater before the "real" engine is complete.

David, please don't hold me to the exact 100th, but I think the math is 1/8 time x 1.57. That would give you a 13.188. BUT it doesn't always hold true. Old Buford ran 8.13's last time on an 1/8, giving a math calc of 12.764. A few days later with the same weather and fuel level, it ran 12.60 1/4's. As a biased GS loving Texan, I give credit to how hard BBB's charge once the tires hook. Ain't they great?! Have Fun.:3gears:

David Where did you go to test the truck? Temple or Dallas.

thanks for the math formula jack. i was hoping for 12's with my other engine, now i'm not sure what to expect of it if this old stocker is that close! i think i had enough room for improvement to get to 8.2 easily. i only got to make a few runs before i got carried away with the burnout:error:

the track i went to is Prairie Hill Dragway. it's about 12 miles east of waco on hwy 84. it used to be some kind of old military landing strip i think. the dragway shares all the concrete with american truck driving school. lots of acres out there.

i was hoping there was going to be a second brand x bash at temple this year, but by next year, i'll have the truck dialed in with the other engine. i can't wait:Brow:

as soon as i get her back on the track, i'll let everyone know about the 1/4 mile et's. thanks guys.

hey, thanks phil. i don't expect you to remember me, but i was a tall guy (6'5") wearing a dark green shirt with a yellow Jeg's cap at the brand-x bash in temple. i asked you if there would be a second brand-x bash this year.

it would be cool to see another buick at the track (if you could make it up this far). so far there aren't much more than sbc's:sleep:

there are a few pro-mod's that keep the evening exciting though!

i'll keep in touch, thanks again!
