I want to purchase a new gas tank for my 70 GSX. Which is the best one available and does it include a correct filler neck. Thanks for any info. Paul

Paul, in the research I did last week, it appears the Spectra GM34Q would be correct for '70 GSX. With filler tube and two vents. Prices are all over the map, from $115 to over $200, then there's about $50-60 for shipping with no guarantee of not being dented in transit.

But anyone else got more thoughts, let's hear them!!! I need a tank for #14 too!!
    Thanks

I just ordered one and straps. I have had my car for 20 years and maybe I can find a build sheet while I'm at it! Besides a pad and straps, is there anything else I'll need to replace my tank? Thanks! Paul

The Spectra tank is a great product. I believe they offer 2 variations. One for fuel injected engines (internal pump) and a carburated version (OE style).
A 1970 car may require swapping the neck. But thats easy, any radiator shop can sweat the original one out of your tank and into the new tank.

Super confused by the part#'s!!!:Do No:

I ordered a GM34Q from Rock Auto. A 20 gallon tank. It says it is for a 70 Cutlass. Other sites say it is for a 70 455 Buick so I guess it will be OK.

The Rock Auto site calls for a GM34B for a Buick but it says that is a 17 gallon tank.

I just ordered the GM34Q this morning so I can still change the order if I find out something different today.

The GM34Q does appear to be an Oldsmobile tank. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Thanks! I changed the order to a GM34B. That IS the correct one for a 70 GS. I called Spectra Premium and asked what the difference is between all of the part #s. They said all GM34 tanks are identical and the "B" or "Q"... etc code indicates differing necks. Thanks everyone for your help. Paul

Paul, you will need to have your filler neck put on is all. Fortunatly their 68/69 are correct.

Thanks Don. Worse comes to worse I can put my neck on the tank. I'm excited to hunt for a build sheet. Lloyd said he never had the tank off. Maybe I'll get lucky... and find the build sheet too :)

Hi Roberta, According to Spectra, "B" is the neck for our 70 cars. I wonder if you can simply purchase a neck from them? Their # is 888-910-8888 Paul

I just went through this. No body sells a '70 tank that is 100% correct, at least for a California emissions car. I wen't through two tanks (and was on my way to trying a third) before it became clear I would have to swap the filler neck. Even at that the size of the vent fittings were different than the factory tank. Good luck.
