    Calling all carb guys!

Got a TA 4-bbl manifold for the ol' rag but not sure which Q jet would work best - is there any particular version (year, model#, etc) that I should seek out for the best overall function and performance? The motor will eventually be tweaked up a bit but nothing much more than a slightly hotter cam and basic head work.

What's the availability of choke parts for the earlier models (assuming the TA manifold accepts a factory choke setup)? Would prefer an electric choke but I don't recall seeing those on earlier Q-jets, just the 80's computer stuff.

    thanks for the assist!

You will have to create a slightly modified choke set up to use a stock coil setup. One option if you want an electric choke would be to look for a 1971-74 Olds big block carb as they use electric chokes (and are 800cfm). The number would be 7041250, 7042250, etc. At any rate I would look for a 71-74 big block q-jet as they're 800 cfm. As far as the cam goes, don't go too big unless you're going to swap pistons for some high compression ones as your performance gains will be limited. Poston and GSCA both have cams taylored for low compression if you stick with the stock ones. Your biggest performance gain would be to go to the 10.25:1 pistons though.
