    Hi all,

I'm looking for a 70-71 long block 455. Who is the best supplier?
    (stock remanufactured)

    Stefan,
I don't know of anybody who has used a generic engine rebuild service to buy a Buick long block. Because of the specialized knowledge necessary to DO IT RIGHT, most guys would go with TA Performance or Tri Shield Performance, or other Machine shop that had built many Buick motors in the past and was recommended by a Buick person. There may be someone on this BB who has done it, but I'm not aware of it. Just for giggles, I put "Buick 455 long block" into www.google.com, and came up with a few.

I wouldn't go this route without researching it thoroughly. I'm sure someone on this site could recommend someone in your neighborhood to rebuild your current motor or a boneyard motor.

I would be real cautious about using a bulk reman place for fear that no oil mods were performed as well as the reuse of some parts that perhaps should be trashed. Use one of the experienced Buick Engine builders around the country of which there are maybe 10 just taking a guess.

    455 Rebuild

I highly recomment Tri-Shield Performance or T/A Performance or PAE or Stage 1 Perfomance. A Buick 455 Big Block is a great power plant but the early models had many issues that can be corrected if rebuild by a "Buick-Wise" rebuilder. If you have a good rebuildable engine you are half way there, Good Luck, AL.

    455 Rebuild

Saving money is a good thing but on a 455 you need to do you homework or you will be pulling it apart again to get it right. AL

    AL,

I have a stock 430 that's worn out. Because it's to expensive to rebuild this one, I decided to go with the 455. I need a complete motor except mainfold and carb.

Why is it too expensive? Has it been rebuilt before? If it's a stock bore 430, I would rebuild it. Put some money into the heads or buy aluminum Stage1 heads. The only difference between a 430 and 455 is the bore size, and valvetrain oiling. The rest is the same.

Talk to JW as he just hit the jackpot on a bunch of 455s.

Production line rebuilt engines are JUNK.

Production line rebuilt CHEVY engines are JUNK, don't waste time even thinking they can do better with a Buick. Or Olds. Or Pontiac. You get the idea.

Those engines are put together about 1/2 worn out. Sloppy tolerances, wide clearances, and everything done DOUBLE FAST to maximize profit.

    Larry,

I would pay the same for a stock overhol of the 430 and Jim's Level 1 motor, because the overhol has do be done in Germany.
