I've seen threads in this section that state that 1.720"I x 1.500"E Corvair valves can be installed in the aluminum '64 300 heads. I'm not having any luck obtaining info about which Corvair engine these valves come from. Can anybody out there help me? Mark
Intake valve is from the later 4 carb engines, exhaust valve is oversized 1.400 valve for later 4 carb, .040 over. Don't try the 1.500 exhaust valves, the heads won't take them and live.
Thank you IgnitionMan. I found a Corvair website that lists the various carb and horsepower ratings for these engines. I can determine the year from there. I was pretty impressed with the loyalty of 'Vair enthusiasts...kinda like Buick guys. I was also surprised to see that many aviators have installed these engines in place of standard types like the Lycoming. I appreciate your help.
My cylinder head guys are Ken and Scott Wheeler, Wheelerizing, 134 Viking Lane, Brea, California, (714) 990-9125. These guys are sharp with Corvair stuff, and do a great job on my Buick aluminum stuff. Tell 'em I referred you. All you have to do is be able to tolerate them saying "OK" for everything. Hello, OK, how you doing,OK, need heads done, OK, nuclear blast coming, OK, I'm going to shoot you, OK, etc., you very soon find yourself saying "OK" to everything. They also teach cylinder head porting, repair, technology at Fullerton College as well.
OK, thanks! On a separate topic, you mentioned in an earlier thread that you have some bare 300 V8 aluminum heads available. What's the asking price for a decent pair these days? Mark
