    Coincidental you should mention this...

We had a big sales meeting this week in Bali, Indonesia. My boss' boss was giving a presentation on stage about how well positioned we are to capture the market, attack the competition, blah blah blah. The guy sitting next to me had to wake me up twice within ten minutes because I'd started snoring. After over 25 years with the company I've heard it so many times before it doesn't matter where I am or who's saying it. It just doesn't rev me up anymore.

I did manage to get pretty liquered up at the gala dinner and had a wild time. Took two days to sort out the blood chemistry. I don't get south of the equator very often, and maybe that had something to do with it.

Last company I worked for did the same thing. We found X amount of revenue here that the previos company mis managed. We have a better business model then the other company. we were able to give millions to top executives because we hit all kinds of goals blah blah blah blah oh by the way we are laying you off!
Thanks that what I wanted 5 weeks before Christmas.

Pete, you just figured that out now? If I'd met a bosses' daughter I wouldn't be falling asleep in sales meetings 25 years later.

My wife is a programmer/analyst (and very underpaid in the market) at a window mfg facility here. Yesterday they had a company-wide employee meeting, about 600 employees. The Pres announces an across-the-board pay increase that amounts to around 8-10%. Good news, right??? WRONG... Only applies to production employees. :spank:

Hey I want to get in on this!
    Lets see
"some people left us this year blah blah blah (they actually quit) and well, could you do their job too for the same money? blah blah blah" By the way did you get the memo on the TPS reports?

David, I'd put that in a "weird" category. I'd have thought that they'd reward all people that work there not just the (probably) union employees.

I'm non-union in my beliefs. I think the unions just try their best to screw other people that don't pay dues. Simple as that.

I interviewed as an auditor for the teamsters in the late 70s. Part of the job was to explain to the courts that the pension fund was whole. I almost peed in my pants during the interview. Union leadership people are scareyt of you haven't met them.

Not a union shop here. The reason?? How about a 100% turnover rate in the plant. Yep, 500 new hires during the year, to replace 500 fired or quit.

She DID get a 1.5% raise a couple weeks ago...

David, that's a lousy business model. If you're not keeping at least 70% then something is terribly wrong...

The place I work at has about 50 employees give or take. An average of one a month leaves. 25% Turn over right there.

We were told yesterday that it would be mandatory overtime from 5am to 1pm on saturday but at noon today we came back to "no saturday" on the board. The parts still haven't come in, they were due over a week and half ago.

Pete, are either of the daughters single? Do they have any redeeming physical qualities? I wouldn't mind jumping on the gravey train, so to speak. LOL

    well...

Just so you guys don't think it's all bad out there (and I am not gloating...) but I work for a very large bank that just went through a very large merger in the beginning of '04. Naturally I was concerned about my job. Well, in June, my boss award me a promotion...just really a functional title change, but hey...a promotion is a promotion right? The catch was, due to the merger, no salary review or adjustments until Jan '05. My boss assured me that he would take care of me. Well, I had a meeting with my boss this past week and lo and behold...I get a >15% raise and a healthy bonus to boot. Needless to say, I was pretty happy!
Now I have some more money for the Buick fund! :3gears:

That's cool, congrats Paul! I have it pretty good where I work, as far as annual raises. I see about 5% every year without fail. Can't complain about that.

I haven't seen a promotion in nine years. But I stopped worrying about that a long time ago and just concentrate on staying employed. Even if it is in a rather far away place.

    Congratulations Paul!
