and now my american friends is what i need.....some real got tipps-how to make my 300cui fast.
if you tell some of this "specialists" in good old germany something about a 300cui engine they are shure you mean the 350cui chevy engine, which you find even here on every corner....but no,no,no..we are talking about buick!!
and i want to take the 300cui and my 4-speed - i am sure there is a way..please!!
remember i own the one and only skylark 4 speed in the buick club of germany - why change this??
i am happy about any ( every ) help!!!

You were not talking about engine size.
Both cars are 4 speeds, so yours is not the only one in the club.

Does Thomas know you already call him a friend of yours ?

Only a few things are needed to make your 300 fun to drive.

Find another used pair of cylinder heads and send them off to PAE enterprises here in the states for portwork. You could also check locally for those that work on the rover v8 over in Europe. Because it is a buick design, the heads are extremely similar and the same porting techniques would apply to either engine.
Not sure about your car, but some 300 V8s even used aluminum heads. When searching for some to send for portwork, you may have a choice between iron or aluminum. Iron is more forgiving, but the aluminum heads will save upwards of 50 pounds off the nose of the car.

Find a 4 bbl manifold. Cant help you out there, but check the parts for sale section of the forum or put up a wanted add. Keep trying until you find one and have it ported to match the intake manifold.

A good pair of headers is necessary for higher powered engines.
215 or even 350 headers might work, but im not sure who sells headers for the 300. Custom headers may be needed. www.postonbuick.com

Run the highest compression ratio possible on high octane pump fuel. Aluminu m heads are more resistant to detonation and could allow for a higher compression ratio to be attained. I say shoot for at least 10:1.

Run a stock 350 buick quadrajet and tune it for your engine. It will supply plenty of air.

The cam is up to you, and your choices will depend on the airflow that engine is capable of after porting. Talk to the people at Poston Enterprises, PAE, TA performance, etc and get a recommendation after your portwork is done.

The 4 speed isnt very good for autobahn use if you ask me. While originality is nice, if you plan on this being a capable autobahn car i suggest doing a 5 speed overdrive swap in place of the original muncie, and store the muncie somewhere safe. T5s are plentiful and once installed no one would be able to notice unless they looked under the car.

    Hope that helps

Jacob, aluminum heads were only used in 64, either 2 bbl or 4 bbl engines. Cast iron was used on 65-67 300 engines, and the subject of using 64 heads on 65 and later engines has been beaten to death and then some.

Quick version is 64 heads will not simply bolt onto 65 engines without modifications, or I believe you can use 64 heads and intake on 65-67 engines.

I'll be waiting for somebody to refute that statement though. :Comp:

Other than that, thanks for the tip on using a 350 Q-Jet, that's what I'll look for once I get a 4 bbl intake (which is on the way)

The aluminum '64 heads and intake will bolt onto the '65 block. I know, because I have this set up as we speak. It's not the way to go! You're better off staying with the cast heads and cast 4bbl intake - I know this because going back to the cast parts is my winter project

The ports on the aluminum heads are considerably smaller and restrictive. What you will gain in weight difference does not outwiegh the performance difference with the cast items.

Also, a significant lesson I learned the HARD way with the first 300 I ever built - make sure you buy the 4bbl pistons and not the 2bbl pistons :af:
