I am in the process of refinishing and repolishing the trim, rocker panel trim, grill, headlight bezels, etc. on a '67 Skylark and was wondering if anyone could help me with what type of paint to use to repaint the black sections on the trim? Isn't some stainless and some chrome? Do I need a different paint? Should it be high gloss or satin? How should the surfaces be prepared? Any help would be useful. :Do No:
    Thanks,
    Tommy

I've been wondering that also.........seems like no matter how clean you make the chrome, the paint never sticks well. I tried etching solution and that works the best, but it still tries to chip off in spots. I've been using Lacquer "trim paint" I bought in Pep Boys for about 6 bucks a can. :bglasses:

My success in painting trim begins with "SEM"

I use "SEM" paint products : etch prime in black use sparingly then finish off with "SEM" trim paint also use sparingly. I've had good luck with that and one more thing i always use a red scuff pad to prep the surface for paint.
There is also a product out there that is made by "Kleen-strip" it is called Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, works really well and kinda gives you that sense of security when using it. You would use the promoter first then continue to finish it off with the SEM products if you so choose.

    Good Luck!

    Pinstriping works the best.

Does it come in boom cans? Where do you buy it? :bglasses:

Yes it does come in spray bombs. You should be able to buy it at any Napa store or Car Quest. They might have to order it because not that many stores carry it around here. You could also visit a local body shop and ask them where they get there body supplies from and give them a shot.
