What do you guys recommend when blasting body panels such as doors or fenders?there is a place here that does it with aluminum oxide, anyone have any input on this?

    Thanks

After the aluminum oxide use do they have to wash it with any kind of solvent?does the aluminum oxide leave a residue?

    Thanks

Aluminum oxide is the same abrasive that is used in sandpaper. Any residue is generally just dust. Any surface to be painted should be wiped down with a rag soaked in wax and grease remover.

Are you going to primer these right away?

:Smarty: Make sure the guys doing the blasting have experience with sheel metal. It is possible to warp the metal if they're not careful, especially if both the inside and outside surfaces are blasted. It's hard to SEE the damage, until you actually get paint on it, and start blocking it flat.
For sheet metal, it's safer to use plastic beads or baking soda to remove the paint. Then go over the rusty areas with alum oxide.
After it's blasted, It's still a good idea to sand the whole panel with a machine sander (DA or orbital), to smooth the surface, and remove any specs of paint that weren't blasted off.

    George,
$80 per door is a good price from Atlas. They will do an excellant job.
They deal with some pretty big PIA's on LI (myself included) and have managed to keep their rep intact.
One of the few "car guy" operations who do not take advantage of the "hobbyist" end of the business.

    Soda Blast

One of the best Blast methods ive seen lately is, Soda Blasting / They use a machine which uses a comercial type of ,Get this, Baking Soda. NO warping. No Glass Etching if not totally striped and No Chrome Damage If not removed.
