My step father past on recently and I decided to start tinkering with a couple motors he had laying around that he never got around to but there's a motor that I don't remember him getting and i need to know what it is...i think it's a buick but i'm not for sure...i was wondering if anyone could tell me where to look for the casting numbers on the engine block...thanks guys
Huddy, Welcome to the board ! Casting numbers are found on the back of the block, on top of the bell housing were it connects to the transmission. Most Buick engines have the ignition on the front of the engine, a little bit in a slant position. Nailheads have the ignition on the back, just like a Chebby, but you'll i.d. a Nailhead by the valve covers. CLICK HERE for a site with the casting numbers. If you need earlier numbers, just post them on the board and I'll try to help you out with them.
Erik, I just got some number off my block, but they don't even resemble the numbers from the link that you posted. The number came from behind the power steering pump. They are BIEI2962 or they may be B1E12962. Do you think that you could help me out with trying to decipher what I have in there?
