Once again this is my first engine rebuild so cut me some slack on this, I know it's really simple but I have a problem. I ordered a freeze plug kit and when it got here the freeze plugs fit great but the cam plug seems way too large for the hole, even if you pound it in with a jackhammer!Second, the two oil plugs that go in the front of the block on either side of the cam push right in with no problems and continue to go in until they hit a lip about 3/4 of an inch in the block. My question is does anyone know the right size for these plugs I should be using, and second, do those two plugs sit flush with the block like the rest of the plugs or are they supposed to go into the block farther like they do?Please be kind and hold your laughter. First timer remember! The size on the cam plug reads 1 and 59/64ths and the two oil plugs read 19/32nds. The block is a 1967 340. Thanks.

    my rear freezeplug was 1 59/64's, but that's on a 350. i don't think a 340 has the same cam journal size.

    are the original plugs gone?

Yes the original plugs were gone. I bought the car off a co-worker who had the entire engine stripped apart and took it to the engine shop. The shop of course hot tanked the block and took out the plugs and threw them away. The place I bought them from said there were a few early production 340's that used the plugs for a 300, but he didn't know the sizes though.
