Ok guys sorry to drag you all through this again I'm sure but heres the deal... A year ago (i think) i bought body mounts for the 71 skylark from Parts Place and of course i was shorted the 2 mounts. They did however come neatly packed in separate baggies marked with numbers and a diagram showing where to put what numbers. So instead of trying to find 2 extra mounts i ordered anouther kit from them so I'd have lots of mounts. This time no separate baggies and no directions. Now I have all these mounts, with the exception of the rears, rad cradle and the boltless mounts all the rest look the same? What the heck is the difference with the bolted mounts, I've used a tape measure and unless there something to do with the hardness of the rubber these damn things go whereever? What the jeese am I missing here, thanks alot, Gord

Oh ya, what the heck are all the big washers for?

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

All the bolted bushings are the same.
The ones that get shorted all the time are the cushions that sit above the rear axle.

The large washers go on the bottom.....looking from the ground up.

You place the hollow "hockey puck" on the bottom side of frame then the large washer then the bolt.

George, the ones that get shorted all the time is two sets of bolted mounts and two set of cushions. This is because Buick used 4 sets under the firewall and none of the companies that sell these has figured it out for the 20+ years or so they have sold these. The only way you will get the correct number is to order a covertible set as all GM A body converts used the 4 sets. The other company A bodies just used two set under the firewall. ....If you really want the best mounts and cushions You need the individual ones from Cars. They are BM644 for the mount and BM644A for the cushion. They are the only ones that are close to correct. The cost 8.25 and 7.25 each so they are more expensive but worth it. My car is only coming off the frame once so I am not using those crappy loose washer sets. They are junk and meant for a chevy(see lower priced cars). I have ordered three sets from three sources and they are garbage. I wasted my money. The cushoins with the loose washers flatten out and do not do the job. The Cars BM644A cushions have the washers molded in like only Buick used.hey also fit over the metal core of the mounts. The BM644 mounts also have an extra metal core molded into the rubber like the originals. I have an NOS mount and these are exact. The rubber is slightly softer as well like the GMs. Think hard before you lower your car onto inferior mounts.

You will still need to use the 4 plug in mounts from the kit or order ones from Cars. They sell those seperate as well. Sorry for the rant but I hate junk and the bad info soem of these comapnies give just to take our money.

i really appreciate the comments, my car is on the frame but just sitting there loose. I will order the good ones from Cars, no point rushing and/or using inferior products at this point as theres lots of other things I can be doing. I can use the mounts I already bought for hockey pucks, unless someone wants them for their project......Thanks guys

You need 12 BM644 and 12 BM644A to do a complete car. You then need 4 of the plug in type. Check out Cars other site www.oldcarstuff.com for a listing of the different mounts. They sell two different type plug in mounts. If you can measure your old ones maybe you can be the guinea pig on these. When you go to that site look under rat rod mounts and they are all listed along with the BM644

Just do not buy the Cars sets. Unless they have changed their practice you will just get a set of the Chevy type. More expensive the individual way but worth it.

Here is a good comparison picture. First at far left is a repro set from one kit I bought. As you can see the mount is tiny and barely looks able to support a VW bug. The cushion has the washer molded in but is very thin walled rubber and it flattens out too much when you try and torque to the factory 40 ls or so. The second set is from another kit and the mount is about right size but metal sleeve has wider hole and rubber is hockey puck hard(for you Canadian guys). The cushion is a joke with seperate washer. When you torque bolt it becomes a useless flat piece of rubber that you keep tightening until it is non existant. The third set from the left is a blue colored later style GM NOS part#1242761 which was the later style NOS GM replacements for all areas with a bolt on 70-72. It has a metal ring molded in as well and the rubber is softer than the kits which would give a better Buick type ride. The yellow cushion is a 2nd generation Slightly used NOS GM#1377367 and the other cushion is the original beat up with ridges same #. The mount at the far right is the cars BM644 which is detailed in corrct violet paint by me. it is the same as the GM unit and the rubber is about the same density and has molded in ring like GM piece. The cushions are also identicle to the GM#1377367 2nd generation detailed in yellow by me.

great Photos, the rubber compound on the violet mount must be different as it looks the same physically. My PP mounts did have the molded in washer on the insolators but the rubber seems very soft, and the rad support was a smaller diameter also? When I recieve my new ones, i'll compare the CARS with the PP mounts and post em also, thanks...Dave

I just wanted to say that all of you guys have given me lots of help and not even knowing it. I was going f***ING NUTS looking for body mounts and then I read this thread and have since ordered the lower mounts from carrs . and the uppers from steel rubber. thanks once again all .

Danny, not sure if you have that backwards. The mount itself(larger piece would be the upper and the cushion is the lower piece. I think Steele sells the same cushions but are more expensive. If you mean you are getting the bigger mount from Steele it may not be comapatible with cars cushions. The only plcae where the cushion is the upper piece s the core support where everything is reversed.
